So many mental mistakes. Thomas with the bad 3 at the end of regulation. No challenge and no timeout at the end of OT. I still think the refs had that offensive interference call wrong. Oh, and continuing to hunt for and hoist 3s.

I get that this was supposed to be some sort of bridge season, but for the love of God, something needs to happen on the trade front...

Trade Vaughn for a Pistons HC and count me in as a happy camper

Re: GT: Heat @ Nets 1/15 7:30PM EST
JV has in all likelihood hit his expiration date. The year started out promising but has collapsed on what seem to be a few really flawed mistakes that have his fingerprints all over them:
1. no defensive identity from a roster full of defenders
2. mishandling the ball handlers
3. crapping the "culture" bed with the b2b rest game
#1 is the most egregious.
#2 was the most predictable, especially once simmons went down.
#3 seems to have been the tipping point since they've mostly tanked since.
not sure firing him in season matters much since the roster is going nowhere this year with or without him but if they like Ollie enough that they think he's the best alternative it doesn't hurt to give him a shot. especially if the lockerroom has lost all the good vibes they had entering the year.
sounds like dinwiddie now wants out, which is fine because he is clearly not part of the solution.
flipping dinwiddie/dfs/1 protected frp (phi 27?) for murray is something id be interested in (dfs maybe to a 3rd team for another FRP to ATL). this team needs a lead guard in the worst way. Cam T isn't it, Simmons can't stay healthy, Murray is signed at a reasonable contract and is worth the gamble to return back to a lead role. Fits the age timeline of the group and balances the starting lineup much better. Herro singlehandedly beat Nets yesterday because he could create offense on the ball and the nets dont have that guy.
trade royce for a pick or young guy at the deadline and play young guys rest of the year. if simmons comes back play him limited minutes off bench, at this point he's an expiring contract place holder for next year. roll with:
Murray
Cam T.
Bridges
Cam J.
Claxton
off the bench DSJ, Walker, Watford, Sharpe, Wilson, Clowney, Whitehead. and if he ever comes back Simmons i guess.
nothing to tank for so may as well try to buy low on a reclamation project who will help the young guys already here develop better in roles that fit.

definitely not all of it, but that's some of it.
another part seems to be that the team is down on itself. in long seasons thats going to happen but good coaches help pull teams out of those funks, or at least have some kind of identity they can lean on as opposed to players pressing and underperforming worse as a result.

This team.has over performed in my estimation. Yes its been a bad stretch but I think early on he was getting a lot out of them. His decision to bench Dinwiddie in the 4th among other things like making Watford a part of the rotation show active coaching and managing.3pt_chucker wrote:bubonicphoniks wrote:Me3pt_chucker wrote:Are there any JV supporters left?

Maybe Im just shell shocked after how bad Nash was but I like Vaughn I though how the season started alone should gurantee him the rest of the year at least. The played seem to listen to him.
This is a deeply flawed roster that has beat some big teams and gone to the wire against others. Thats indicitve of good coaching to me.
Its like his we are comparing him to his early sucess and docking him for it.

Before I begin, I found an interesting article I thought was relevant: https://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/nets_mind_boggling_stat_explains_recent_offensive_collapse/s1_17113_39825424
"Six of Brooklyn’s top seven players in three-point attempts during the span are shooting 30 percent or worse. The Nets’ top three offensive options—Mikal Bridges (29.0 percent), Cam Thomas (26.3 percent) and Spencer Dinwiddie (26.2 percent)—have been unable to find their stroke. After career-best starts from three, Dorian Finney Smith (25.0 percent) and Royce O’Neale (30.0 percent) have also cooled considerably.
Cam Johnson has been the team’s top shooter during the stretch, converting 35.1 percent of his attempts, still well below his career average"
And I come not to praise or bury JV or Spence. I just think that "active coaching and managing" is not always synonymous with good. It's logical to blame the point guard when an offense collapses, but when the others involved are ball dominant iso players, it might be questioned, particularly since the same combination earlier in the season was working well. In this instant case, after missed threes by everyone, but a couple more by them, Cam J and Spencer were replaced in the first quarter by Cam T and DSJ. This made obvious sense since we needed points and a defensive point would balance the defensive concern. And it worked because scoring is what Cam can do, and DSJ is competent.
My concern, as it was early this year, is that we have lost "every" close game when we benched Spence in the fourth quarter. And these last three games have seen the same results. So I will not convince you because I know you question Spence's "clutchness", but JV who claims to be statistically motivated should know better. However poorly Dinwiddie has been shooting, NBA.Com's team fourth quarter numbers show that he is our best shooter (in the fourth) at 71.4% from 20-24 feet (corner and three point line distance). He also is shooting 28.6% from 25-29 feet, and 60% inside 5 feet.
Like many of the bloggers, I believe this is in anticipation of a non-re-signing, probable trade, and optimistic belief that DSJ will be a better starter. But since Herro lit us up in the Miami Game, at seven points above his average, I wonder if the defensive prowess is enough to offset the offensive limitations. Based on fan criticisms of Ben, I doubt it. And what is it doing to trade value? In summary, I think that there is more wrong with our offense and defense than any one player, and believe the team is less deeply flawed than you claim. Most of all I worry about what we could give up with our lost pick this year.
