I realize Siakam is so good, but I feel like we just started hitting a groove with the Turner/Jackson, Smith/Toppin lineup. I'm on the fence about the move tbh.

It seems odd to me that this information came out like this, as the Pacers FO usually keeps discussions under wraps until the deal is imminent. Did the Pacers leak their offer to put pressure on TOR to take it? Did the Raptors leak it to drum up better offers from another team? Both of those scenarios seem sort of petty, which makes me wonder whether talks have broken down. For that reason, I don't see a deal getting done until closer to the deadline, if at all.

BUT....if i'm wrong and if a deal can be agreed to around picks, maybe Pacers can generate an extra FRP by sending Hield to a third team like Orlando and routing the filler/pick to TOR.

I've been a general proponent of getting Siakam since last year; before the deadline last year (while Pacers were in the playoff hunt) I had proposed on the T&T board some kind of bonanza 4-pick+Nembhard+Jackson type offer for Siakam.

If we can get him for basically Brown/Hield + picks, and we have genuine reason to expect him to re-sign in Indy, we should do it. Siakam is a great player.

Don't forget that our last contending years were when we had a young up and coming team and then added an older power forward former All-Star and proceeded to make it to two straight ECFs. I'm talking of David West joining the PG/Hibbert/Hill Pacers, of course.

We're not going to find a 26-year-old current All-Star, certainly not for a Brown & 3 picks package; so this is by far the best guy we can get without sacrificing some of our current youth. He fits our need - defend Tatum/Giannis/Butler etc, while providing rebounding and be a clear #2 guy (he might actually be the lead scorer)

I hope they get it done.

I didn't picture it any other way then either Woj or Shams reporting it first.

Pacers might not have said a word. The insider for this report mightve come from Toronto.

This is how i viewed it initially, but the fact that a trade has not occurred yet has me second guessing. I am very likely overthinking it.

I will admit to not having watched much of Toronto, and therefore Siakam, but I thought defense and rebounding were two of the things he does not excel at, while his passing, BB IQ and ability to get his own shot were his strengths. Is that perception wrong?

lol this seems a little bit dramatic.

You've been here ever since i joined like 15 years ago. Always one of the best posters on the entire site. Since you've kept coming back i assume you kept your interest in the NBA, so you've returned through so many low's, lots of suspect roster decisions, a lot of losing, and yet, a Pascal Siakam trade is what finally breaks you?

I hope not.

I don't hate the rumored deal, but I don't love it either. I think Bruce Brown was always signed as a guy to offer around in a deadline trade. I see some places/posters talking like we have done Brown dirty, but I'm sure he and his agent were well aware. The three firsts is a lot, but the two this year will be middling to late and I'd hope there's basic protections on any future pick. I mostly just am not excited about paying Siakam a big money deal after giving up picks as well. If Toronto wanted to sign him to a big money deal, they could have done that already. We aren't a true contender this season so what's the difference of waiting and doing a S&T in the offseason when the cost would likely be a lot less?

Mostly, I just think this locks us into a certain roster and it's an interesting one depending on how the young guys progress, but I preferred the "optionality" as the term the front office likes to throw around. We have never been a free agent destination, but Tyrese has been talking about recruiting. Let him recruit.

That's a lot of trade capital especially picks. Hopefully there's some kind of guarantee siakum resigns

This could be awesome as long as they can resign him.

Theres so much potential for Indiana pro basketball right now between this and the Fever winning the Caitlyn Clark lottery.

Depends on the picks and when they are from. The Pacers have two first round picks in this year's draft, both possibly in the 20's. So, given the youth of the squad as is, if two of the three are from this year it isn't bad for the Pacers. What bothers me more is the possible HUGE salary in future years.

Well, it's a done deal. Like I said, I don't hate it. Keeping both our PFs is interesting. Maybe we can flip one of them for another big wing on a longer deal that a team is looking to get off of. We don't have cap space plans anymore.

Gonna be two separate trades. Indy will acquire Kira Lewis into cap space first and acquire a second. James Johnson will have to be waived to complete that part.

Then, since Lewis can be aggregated immediately as he will be taken into cap space (not a TPE or salary matched), he will be packaged with Brown and Nwora with 3 1sts for Siakam. Still to be determined if Garrett Temple will come back from Toronto or if the Raptors want to keep him.

Yeah no doubt he will command huge money. But it probably keeps Halliburton happy so that's huge
