Raptors plan is to tank next year

Post#1 » by bongmarley » Wed Jan 17, 2024 5:28 pm

You can tell by all the moves the Raps true goal is to tank next year for Cooper Flag

They will trade Siakam for picks and basically no players back so that next year they are even worse then this year

Their main goal is to get as bad as possible for next year to pair Flag with Barnes

Don’t have any idea if they will tank accidentally but I can say quite confidently that they have done zero moves that indicate this is the intention.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

they have those guys now with Siakam and can't win.

They will go with IQ, RJ and Barnses and then trade Poeltl, Schroeder and anyone else for picks and bad contracts to tank

Yeah, only an injury could stop them from being at least a play in team. The way things are, it is going to be really tough to sneak into the play in this season. It is probably just better to just shut it down this year, and shamelessly tank for the rest of the season. If we win more than 5 more games, I think there's a good probability the pick ends up being in the 7-10 range.

They are not a play in team this year and have those guys plus Siakam

They just recently acquired the new guys. It's going to take a few months and a training camp to fully integrate IQ/Barrett and i believe Barnes takes another step once Pascal is off the roster. Og/pascal checked out from day one this team was never winning but these new kids and Poetl can be competitive.

No it isnt. Masai/Bobby will be out of work if this continues. We're on verge of missing playoffs for 3rd time in 4 seasons. 0 playoff series wins since the bubble. We're objectively one of the worst teams in the NBA and hade serious blunders the last few seasons. They need to right the ship.

You are crazy to think this team will be better next year.

The Raptors plan is to build around quality young players and hedge their bets:

  • Winning a lot? GREAT!!
  • Losing a lot? de facto tank
  • In between? Fine. Develop/trial different young guys and different combos until it comes together.

You would have to be absolutely out of your mind to tank for (at best) a 14% chance to land a kid who just turned 17 yo. You'd be planning to compete for a title by 2029-30 soonest. Better option would be to contract the team or just fold the league why not who cares anymore the machine is broken

They seem to be tanking this season based on our record.

I suppose it's possible, but I highly doubt the intention is to be worse than we are now next year. We'll possibly have our own pick, return from a Pascal and maybe other trades, and whatever we do with our capspace this summer. Right now we have three pretty good young core players that will likely build more chemistry and continue to improve. This front office hasn't really been the type to just hoard draft picks either, so we'll likely make some kind of splash.

Those players would not be happy with tanking either, or shouldn't be. Scottie's 4th year, the two Knicks coming from a playoff team - they'll want to compete

Pretty sure they're not going to subject 4th year Scottie to a 20 win season, which I'm not sure is even possible if Scottie/IQ/RJ have a full training camp together with more complementary pieces around them.

In fact, I would say their actions indicate the opposite of a "tank", given they're specifically looking for players in their early 20s in lieu of a huge picks package.

Great year to tank, even if we miss out on Flagg. Lots of really exciting prospects. I can't see us bottoming out completely given the talent level, but it will be hard for this team without Pascal to be any better than a mid-lotto team next year (i.e. slightly worse than this year), especially if the trade brings pack draft picks instead of decent players.

Wait how can you get no players back? I thought salaries have to match in trades? :o
