It is insane the numbers a 6'2" Reed Sheppard is putting up

Via NoCeilingsNBA.com:

#3. Washington Wizards — Reed Sheppard | G | Kentucky
Stats (as of 1/8/24):
12.6 PTS | 4.7 REB | 4.2 AST | 2.5 STL | 0.8 BLK

57.4 FG% | 54.7 3P% | 87.1 FT%

13 Games | 26.2 MIN

Corey: For many, this may feel early to see the 6’3” Kentucky guard’s name called. However, Sheppard has not only been the most productive and proficient college freshman in college basketball this season, but he has been one of the most effective freshmen in college basketball over the last 15 years. He may not look the part, but his 14.8 BPM places Sheppard fourth on a list of freshman BPA leaders dating back to 2008. The other members of the Top 5 include Zion Williamson, Anthony Davis, Super Cool Beas, and Kevin Love. The dude just contributes to winning basketball every time he steps on the floor. Sheppard has a valid argument for the best shooter in the class, he processes the game at light speed, and he impacts the game on both ends—as evidenced by his 5.2 STL% and 3.6 BLK%. Washington has precisely one player that they should include in their long-term plans; adding Reed Sheppard to Bilal Coulibaly gives them two.

Reed Sheppard is very intriguing, very low FG attempts for a top prospect, but insanely efficient. Great assists, low turnovers, okay to decent rebounding, and tons of steals.
He's small and can't create his own shot vs good defenders currently. Guard version of Franz Wagner perhaps? Podziemski 2.0 without the rebounding? Less athletic, better shooting Jrue Holiday with way more steals?
I'll wait and see if his numbers cool off a bit in conference play, but the steals keep coming regardless of who he's playing against.

I don't see how he doesn't become a bench contributor

This is so depressing. We have the highest odds to get the 7th pick atm. Knowing this franchise's luck, we will most likely end up with the 7th pick. :(

Yeah, I really like him. And more athletic than it might seem. He can play in the post and also hit the outside shot. He's someone I really hope they consider with the 31st pick. Would be a great replacement for Boucher once his contract is up or he's traded.

Now we have a ton of picks in a crappy draft. Time to catch up on what's out there.

I'm guessing one of these picks will be Zach Edey.

I really like Melvin Ajinca with the New Orleans pick.

Dump Boucher, he plays weak.

I hope we don’t waste a pick just because he’s Canadian. Not saying he won’t be good, just saying don’t pick him because he’s Canadian.

Masai hasn’t done that in the past though, so I doubt we just take a guy based on nationality.

The pick has to be the worst of the clippers? Clippers are one of the best teams in the league, this pick is in the mid 20’s huh?

The Indy pick is likely in the early 20’s.

That sucks.

Straight garbage in a weak draft too. The Pistons 2nd rounder is more valuable.

We literally traded a better pick for Jakob than the 3 picks combined we got for Pascal.

We have the #23, the #28 and the #31.
For the 2026 pick, it's a protected 1-4.

I’m just gonna ignore the draft at this point and just view the trade as a usage and minutes distributer. Who on the team takes the void Siakam leaves behind and grows from it.

Doesn't appear there are any protections on the '24 picks.

The 2026 pick is top 4 protected, so that's basically guaranteed to convey unless IND loses everyone.
