From Larry Coons Guide:
Conversely, a team cannot extend a player it receives in trade for six months, if the extension exceeds the limits of an extend-and-trade.

So,... 3 seasons, including this one. No more than a 20% raise on his existing contract. No more than 5% raise. with the cap projected at 142,000,000, his max contract would be 30% or 42,600,000. That's less than the 20%. If he makes an all star team, he qualifies for 35% of the cap which would be more than 20%,.. so the second set of numbers below is at 20%.

So, he can be extended. Max of 2 additional years. if he doesn't make an all star team, first year = 42,600,000, second year = 44,730,000, Total = 87,330,000. It's an offer he's already turned down. If he makes an all star team first year = 45,472,090, second year = 47,745,695, Total = 93,217,785

If he waits until FA, he can get more years, and up to 8% raises.

They can only get a 5% increase over the last year of their contract this year. Starting in 2025, it will allow a 20% increase.

So, I'm not sure I got a complete answer to my extension question. It sounds like they legally could offer an extension, but it's not anextension that Siakam would take regardless of the particulars of the new or old rules. We'll have to wait till the offseason to see where this goes.

But, Ausin Rivers seems out of place on that studio. I don't even think the Knicks are better then the Pacers if both teams are healthy and thats pre-Siakam trade.

And Wilbon, who i love, says Siakam gives Pacers a defender because they have none right now. That's not fair. Aaron Nesmith is a hell of a good defender. Nembhard isn't bad either. Hopefully Wilbon will watch the Pacers more often now that they have Siakam.

Did you really expect any of them to have a clue about the Pacers? Wilbon, maybe, and that is a big maybe, but Rivers is just a waste of oxygen. Like most of the ESPN talking heads anymore.

You were dead right! I and Yahoo were dead wrong! I went & checked the changes document,.. the 4 years & 20% raise doesn't come into effect until 24-25! (someday,.. I'm gonna learn just to watch for your answer! LOL =}

That would mean that there's even less incentive for Siakam to do anything before getting to FA.

Correct. They can offer him an extension hat fits into the “extend and trade” rules, which JMaster5k and I have been discussing. Those rules are very limiting, and Siakam has already whispered to media previous to any trade talks with Indy that he won’t sign that extension anywhere.

early reports say Siakim is happy to with the trade.

He should be. He wants to win, and with Hali he has a great guard to work with. Great trade for Indy. Will be missed on the Raptors.

Hey I've lived in and around Indianapolis all my life and I freaking hate it here I'm looking to move and get out of this crime riddled il-managed hellscape. Pascal is gonna love it when he goes out on Meridian street for a night out and some of our finest gang bangers start popping off shots all around. Seriously it's like the Wild West, you have to wear a bullet proof vest and Kpot to walk down the street. I'm seriously thinking about getting my Caddy Escalade armored up.

And I'm not kidding around about any of that. I haven't been to a game in 6-7 years because things just keep getting more and more out of hand.

I think he’d take the 5 year max, but your suggesting is very, very possible, too.

The Pacers did not give up much to get Siakam but giving him a massive long-term contract at 30 years old is not ideal. It seems like the Raptors traded Anunoby to the Knicks because the Knicks are willing to give him a huge contract. I imagine the same goes here for the Pacers. Siakam is durable and a very good player but he would be better suited as a 3rd guy on Dallas for example in my opinion.
