I like this, feels like the reasonable approach.IllMagic04 wrote:Agreed. I think we have a more clear picture in the off-season for trades. Alot of people want Murray. Im not opposed to him as a player but I believe it will cost alot to get him and Im just not sure about that kinda deal at the deadline when were struggling. Is Suggs 100% untouchable? Cause the Hawks are going to want him. If he is then they will want Black,Jett and multiple first. Are we already ready to move off Black? These are questions I don't think we should answer in February.thelead wrote:IllMagic04 wrote:I personally don't think we should do any major moves at the deadline. A small deal that gets us a PG is all I think we should do at the deadline. If the Tyus Jones rumor has legs then sure. Even with him though if it turns to a bidding war Im not willing to go multiple picks for him. Fultz and our first is the max. I know things are falling apart a bit but going into the year the play in is what we all were shooting for. We are still on pace to do that. Injuries have played a huge part. I don't think now is the time to go crazy.

Making a desperate move would be unacceptable, we agree there. I just feel like the days of big FA acquisitions are pretty much over. Trades are the name of the game if you’re not LA it seems.

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic Trade Ideas Thread 2.0
Any trade the Magic would potentially make would have a lot more than just the rest of this season in mind. Whatever they provided THIS season would really just be a bonus.
It would be really be more focused and important how they worked in for next year and beyond.
Murray has 4 years left on his contract after this one, ya know?
Lavine has 3. Simons has 2.
But you still trade for guys (especially guys you can't sign in 6 months like Tyus) immediately because they may not be available if you wait.

Im not a Dejounte Murray fan, but if you can trade him for Fultz, our pick this year and the Denver pick next year, you have to say yes.
Play Jase or Trade for Alvarado

I dont think Murray is the type of personality Weltman (dont know much about parker) want to bring in to this team, especially knowing that he and paolo have a connection (seattle) and a no-so-friendly relationship
I just cant imagine it happening

Let’s just wait. It’s not really clear that our 3pt shooting is atrocious or that 3pt shooting even matters. Let’s just wait and see if our guys magically become good shooters. We definitely don’t want to improve too quickly without waiting for Paolo & Franz to get beat to death on every possession. Mom always said “patience is a virtue”
Seriously, why not just assume Suggs can’t shoot and get someone that can next to him? Then, if Suggs continues to improve…we’ll have two. Like most serious teams do. It’s fine to have a couple of projects with other potentially elite skills…but you can’t compete without some reliable backcourt shooting. Any team blessed with Paolo & Franz’ wizardry and power going to the rim is committing GM malpractice by continuing to neglect to surround them with shooters. On-ball defense is very valuable…but we are neglecting THE most important requirement of modern basketball.
I think as expected, we create a lot of good quality shots…so, with that in mind, our bad shooting is actually a lot worse than bad.

If that's the deal, then absolutely but there no reason the Hawks should do that. The owe picks to the Spurs so there's no incentive to tank. They would want a player(s) that keeps them competitive along with draft capital to replace what's lost to the Spurs

Dejounte Murray would be fantastic.
But does anyone of you think this front office is urgent to make a move this trade deadline?

I don't think a single person here would disagree with that. (Except Suggs is shooting well this year) But what's the move you have in mind? Or better yet who and what picks are you willing to move to get what you want?

I do not. Murray also has a troubled past. Seems unlikely that he would be a real target.

This front office has proved time and time again that they prefer patience. Maybe they were right, Magic has one of the deepest bench and two stars in Franz and Paolo.
They need to make a trade but they do not have to. The goal is not to advance to Eastern Conference Second round this year but contention two or three years down the line
But I still think Murray is a very very good trade

Well, i disagree. We need more than shooting. Passing, off-ball movement, some 3-level threat (no matter how infrequent), athleticism, defence at a 40th percentile or above level.

Management does seem to have a certain type if character they look for... but we also had Gilbert Arenas on the payroll even after his locker room shenaniguns.

SAS dont seem to miss Murray much, either fans or ex teammates. Maybe hes matured, but the FO has to be very careful about impinging on the brilliant team harmony in Orlando.

That’s not disagreeing (unless you think we DONT need shooting-which would be suspension-worthy). My point is the reluctance of some to take any action. To congratulate ourselves that we’re making progress and wait and watch how our team develops organically…in other words-do nothing, risk nothing, be nothing, just sit on our hands until our two stars give up.
*all I do is post trades…Simons, Brogdon, Murray/Griffin/Bogdonavic, Rozier, Herro, Monk,Tyus Jones/Kispert…any of them (the primary guys) would be our best offensive guard day 1. You probably can’t skip back a page without finding one or more. Depending on the target, our 24, Den 25, possibly even our 26 could be on the table along with any of our expiring or non-guaranteed players…I’d also consider including WCJ, and possibly even Cole…if the trade basically knocked them out of the rotation. Prefer to stick to our expirings- who, conveniently, don’t really have a future here anyway and can match large salaries.

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic Trade Ideas Thread 2.0
Like anybody, I’d prefer a young, long, athletic, elite defending, high-volume 3 pt shooting guy who can effectively run an offense…but that doesn’t exist. I think Quickley would be the closest thing and WAS available, despite all the NYK fans’ protests. Brogdon might be the closest- but he’s older & has an injury history. Murray is also good at everything we need, to a degree. Simons is my pick…he’s nearly perfect offensively for our spot but he’s not been a good defender. I’d rather let Mose try to instill that in a long, freakishly athletic local kid than count on Anthony Black, for example, to develop everything OTHER than defense. No perfect guys exist. There must be some compromise, for me, given our roster…I’d give a bit on defense to goose our offense.

What are people thinking about Sexton? If your opinion hasn’t changed since CLE days, take another look. I’m still not loving him as a Lead Guard, ball distributor, or exceptional defender, but, by all accounts, he’s been scoring 20+ ppg, efficiently, from inside. & out, since he got to UTA. Not even sure he’s gettable, the way they’re playing.

I was not a fan of his coming out of college but his advanced stats look great right now. Utah is now 22-20 and in the playoff mix so who the hell knows what Ainge is thinking.

Not sure we have a deep bench vs actually having a youthful bench and not Jeff Green’s of the world.
Can Cole Houstan Okeke Black and Goga play, sure but they’re somewhat all limited in what they bring.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.
