So how’d he make it through the vetting process, you think?Ron Swanson wrote:Being literally dead last in opponent turnover percentage is the only stat you need to know that the scheme is absolute garbage. Like, actively being the worst team in the league at the one thing the defense is designed to do couldn't be a bigger indictment against Griffin as a coach.
Wouldn’t all this’ve been exposed during interviews with Horst et al? Like ‘What schemes, IF HIRED, do you propose to install and run with our current roster?' What would Edens’ & Horsts’ thinking

Hawks ownership and front office is a train wreck.
I like our chances dealing with them and who knows maybe they do something dumber than we’d expect.
Could they love Bobby enough to put us in play?
Or would Middleton be cut loose? Only so many shots to go around which is where I didn’t think we’d be chasing Murray, but with Haynes’ report now who knows.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Crowder Returns Wednesday
In life I analyze everything by risk and outcomes.
KM catches behind the arc and shoots.. 2 outcomes:
miss and its 0 points
make it and it's 3 points
KM fiddles with the ball to get a long 2 point shot 4 outcomes:
Bounce the ball of your leg 0 or -2 if they dunk
Get it stolen 0 or -2
Miss 0
Make it 2
Shooting long 2s compared to 3s has more risk, worse risk and less reward. KM should be feasting out there - let the 3 fly - but he instead wants to act like Wade or Parker but he doesn't have handles like that.

Yeah, I don't see a trade that makes sense unless we want to get really freaky:
Capela/Hunter/Murray for Lopez/Bobby/PC/CPayne/Washington worked in ESPN?
Disclaimer: I haven't watched the hawks since 2021. How is Capela only 29? Maybe the Hawks bite saving $40m a year on the back-end of the deal?
ETA: What is a Bufkin? Not sure I'm into that
ETA2: How can the Hawks be so bad and only find 4 minutes for their first round pick?

I analyze Giannis barreling in the same way because he was adding the risk of being called for a charge and higher injury risk. Him catching closer and being more methodical has the better outcomes and he draws the most fouls in the NBA

Ignoring the part where I don't understand how we could even trade for him with our trade "assets" does adding a guy like Dejounte even make any sense on this team?

Maybe AJ called his dad and asked for advice on earning more PT.

He's shooting 39% on 3s this year with decent volume. Really just hope he replaces Beas in the starting lineup and increases his D in a reduced role.

"Lucky To Just Be Bad"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm beginning to get the feeling that Brewhoop is not a big Griffin fan.
As far as I can tell, you're the only Adrian Griffin fan. So what are the casuals, die hards, local guys who get paid to study/interpret/talk/write about basketball, and national guys who get paid to study/interpret/talk/write about basketball missing? What are we missing? This just kinda feels like a schtick.
Ironic that on a forum where every Bucks coach since Larry Drew has essentially been called a mental defective (might have been right about Larry Drew, though), defending the first-year guy halfway into a ~.700 season is called shtick.
I understand the need to vent, and grousing about the coach is pretty much the national pastime, but "Lucky To Just Be Bad"? Is that the reasoned position you criticize me for objecting to?
Its not just that particular post in this particular thread. You seem to take offense to pretty much any and all criticism of AG. Throwing out win % in defense of a head coach blessed with two top-75 players ever, first ballot Hall of Famers, in Giannis and Dame, and two other highly decorated players in Khris and Brook, seems a little disingenuous.
Bucks fans/local scribes/national talking heads have given all sorts of reasons for not liking AG's style. Whether its him trying to stubbornly implement his defensive scheme, personnel be damned, or failing to set rotations that make sense so players share the court with teammates who best compliment each other to have success on both ends of the floor.
There have been a laundry list of articles, podcasts, and forum ranting, all critical of AG. So, again I ask, what exactly are those of us who have been critical missing with this guy? What is he, and his coaching staff, excelling at through a half season? What stands out to you about his sideline demeanor? What do you like about his postgame pressers? Or other interviews you've watched or read?

Big Dog played like 10 games that year, weird flex there.
Larry and Dirk are hall of famers that could do everything and anything.. if they weren't dogs on D, they were incredible competitors that had near 7ft length to challenge shots
Derozen, Carmello, PG.. that's probably the comparisons... Kawaii was all mid range but also dominant D.
Tony Parker. Late career Heatles Wade who was bad at D. Then you can get into good teams that didn't quite win titles and come up with more.
Sooo you agree then? Deep 2s usually aren't the best way to win? Wade and Parker were very aggressive with amazing handles attacking the hoops and drawing fouls... does that describe our guy?
You made a point and people listed off that like half the teams of the last 20 years have had guys like that. Then add in the guys that shoot midranges but were good at D (which I don't know why they're excluded in a discussion about offense) and its likely every team got a major top 3-4 guy on their team with midrange as their prime scoring route. So, no.

Not sure I want to pay him $25 million a year starting next season for a reduced offensive role and the hope that he starts playing defense again. Pass.

Just imagine if Horst somehow pulls this off. Bobby/Pat/Marjon/Payne/Livingston + 2nd's for Murray and Patty Mills. OKC can be the third team that takes Capella and Livingston for Bertans, Poku, and a 1st. PJ gets traded and bought out, then signs with us. Playoff rotation of:
Dame/AJJ
Murray/Beasley
Middleton/Crowder
Giannis/Tucker
Brook
Like, maybe he's just trying to actually "idiot proof" the roster lol. If Griffin can't coach that team to a championship then he might honestly be the worst head coach in the history of basketball.

If Atlanta (or a 3rd team) sees Middleton as the championship savvy star that can take their team to the next level this would work under the cap:
Bucks trade: Middleton, MarJon, Cam Payne
Hawks trade: Murray, Bogdan

Hawks trade: Murray, Bogdan

Because it's the least efficient shot that draws the least amount fouls and generally the make % is very similar to 3pt %.. so if a guy were to choose the least effective weapon to fight with then at least be a dog on defense to add to your value. In my memory there were some weak defenders that won it all but mostly they were lights out at shooting 3s like Korver which is the most efficient shot with the least amount of turnovers if your handles aren't very good. This is why 3 and D guys became the moneyball hack to put around your superstars because it's the highest efficiency roles put together.
Do you remember what Detroit was doing when they won that Chip? Didn't they beat Kobe with zero superstars? Billups, Sheed and them... it was all aggressive D and inside out ball.. a bunch of role players that the best ball handler draw and kick and the others knock down 3s or pump fake. We have 2 superstars.. imagine what some 3 and D role players like that could accomplish here

Ron Swanson wrote:Pure speculation but I can't imagine the Hawks are fine being a luxury tax team while toiling away at the bottom of the conference standings. They'll only be ~$8 million below the first apron with 9 rostered guys next season. I'd say it'd be a dumb use of assets to use Murray just to dump other long-term salary, but maybe they really want to recoup some of those draft picks even at a net loss if it means wiping the cap sheet clean.
But again, I think too many people are asking if we have the assets to pull it off (I doubt it but I also think Murray got really overrated), and not enough people asking why Dame/Giannis' "guy" in the media is the first to report on this.
First thought at had. It's very interesting, at minimum
