You don't make that type of trade without talking with Paolo first. I'm not the type of person who believes that players should get a word in when it comes to roster construction but if you want Paolo as your franchise player, I am assuming you don't want him to walk into a contentious locker room the whole season.

I think there's a clear difference between Orlando and the play-in bubble of Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, and Atlanta. I'll be shocked if one of them catches us

BK is floundering but Raptors have a promising starting 5, Hawks have talent but no defense, Chicago is a veteran team that might catch us.

Yeah, there's a narrative for each for sure and Chicago might have the best one.

I think there's a non-zero chance we see Jett play rotation minutes in the next game if Franz is still out. Maybe not, but we did kinda sorta witness Coach pull the plug on Caleb tonight. And it sucks to be grasping at straws (make no mistake, playing Jett is absolutely grasping at straws), but we're at a stage right now where it's appropriate to go searching for something.

If you want to win games, and I mean really win games not just play around .500 ball, then use your assets and go get some veterans in here who are better than Fultz and Gary and Chuma and more available than JI.

If you want to develop your youth and winning isn't that important, then play Black and Jett.

But what they're doing - playing bad veterans over their youth while playing about .500 basketball - is truly the worst of both worlds.

I could see the advantage of bringing in vets like Ingles to stabilize the offense and ultimately better ascertain who is a keeper and who isn’t. But at this point, mission accomplished and time to act. Paolo, Franz, Suggs, Cole and Mo (price and Franz happiness) are keepers. Goga is a maybe to be retained at the right price. Keep Jett and AB unless a trade package overwhelms them. Punt the rest in trades. Even casual fans of this team see how little we are working with, and the best teams continue with influxes of talent to surround their stars with talent.

It’s also good short term to hand the keys to Paolo and Franz individually to see if they can be THE guy. Again, mission accomplished. Forcing them to carry the team long term by themselves is just asking for them to leave when their contracts are up.

Yeah. I really wanted to believe Cole had turned a corner and was going to be a reliably good bench scorer. Disappointment is truly worse than anger.

I'm not totally writing him off. He's gone through these stretches of terrible play before and bounced back. But that's the thing, it's always feast or famine with him.

Confused as to how you can name Cole a keeper

I’m already shifting away from this whole “trade Carter and start Goga permanently” idea.

I’m only trading Carter if it brings in a definite long-term upgrade in the backcourt.

Otherwise I’m just using picks and swaps and expirings.
