2024 Prospect Spotlight: Zach Edey
Thoughts on the slow-footed, 7-4 Canadian as a solution to our poor rebounding, rim protection, undersized Center issues?

I only saw one mock, I believe and he didn't even show up in the first round. I'm sure someone could use him in the top 30.
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

ESPN most recent mock has him in late 2nd round. Could be a steal of a pick for the right team:

Edey as a screener and a trailer would be largely unstoppable by 80% of the NBA.
He'd be an elite weapon off the bench.

This class is pretty much ass... with that I think the Hawks should look into Ware and Brazile

This draft doesn't have any future HOFers but the talent is pretty deep. The gap of talent between pick #30 and pick #5 isn't that much.
I'm a big fan of Edey and I think him and Trae would work well together, especially when Trae needs a bail out lob. 2024 is deep with 7 footers. It wouldn't surprise me if 15 seven footers ended up getting drafted in 2024

Not sure I like the bigs in this class, but if one is high on an Edey, you should be riding the Dickinson train instead pause.

Zach isn't unplayably slow...
He would be a liability against teams that love to push the ball in transition.
He can at least move his feet a bit in space.

It'd be really great having a huge target inside to defend the paint and be a constant lob threat.
Can he learn to shoot threes and be molded to play a la Brook Lopez?

1. I think it's mostly defense and securing rebounds, particularly in the 4th (that's where we missed JJ with Quin playing too small).
jayu70 wrote:Their biggest struggle is size, defense and rebounding. Going smaller isn't an option.
Based on these shortcomings, I really think 7'4", 300LB Center Zach Edey should be in heavy consideration for that Sacramento Draft Pick.
He's massive and his strengths are almost exclusively rim protection and rebounding. He may not be a long term starter, but he has the makings of an elite specialist/role player off the bench.
He can guard inbound plays at end of game scenarios, prevent lobs, guard Jokic/Embiid in isolation and get offensive rebounds off those aggravating Trae Young missed 35 foot jump shots.

Re: Prospect Spotlight: Zach Edey
Zach Edey might end up the best backup Center in the league very soon...
But I honestly don't know if he's worth a lottery pick.

Question: who is the best competition/team he has gone up against so far? How'd he fair?
His movements remind me of Yao Ming, not saying his skillset does, maybe it's just his size?

Re: Prospect Spotlight: Zach Edey
He rebounds well and draws fouls at an unreal rate. He's a project for sure, but can thrive in the right role next to a high level creator and 3-pt shooters.
You are correct that he moves like Yao (same size) but is no where near as skilled.
Gonzaga, Tennessee and Marquette are all currently ranked.
