Just did a little looking. The suffering has been long.

Was just looking through the Pistons season records, since the last time the team was an actual threat to win, or do anything. That season was the 2007-08 season. The team was 59-23.

Since that time, which was 16 years ago, the team has gone positive once, (2015-16 44-38) and made the playoffs twice, swept both times. The Pistons incidentally also own, soley, the longest playoff losing streak in History, at 14 games, which is still ongoing

Since that season, the Pistons have gone 456-775. In that time, the farthest the team has been over .500, is exactly at the end of the 2015-16 season, at 44-38, being 6 games over .500. The longest win streak since the 2007-08 season? 7 game streak in 2008-09, and a 7 game streak in 2014-15.

The longest since 2014-15, 9 years ago, is a whopping 3 game win streak.

If the Pistons, who already this season have tied the longest losing streak in NBA history at 28, do end up with the worst record in NBA history, it will come on the heals of being the first non-expansion team, (Vancouver Grizzlies) and only the second team in NBA history to have 5 straight 25 and under win seasons.

What an absolutely miserable 16 years and counting.

Most surprising thing from that is going nearly a decade without winning 4 games in a row... I know we haven't won four in a row since Killian joined in 2020 but surprising that goes so far back.

Good news is though the future is bright... we're just two years away from being a play-in team and another two years away from being a playoff team when Cade hits his prime in four years.

My dad took me to my 1st Pistons game in '85. I know a few on here have been watching even longer, but I've seens a lot. Good & bad. This is the most apathetic I've ever felt. More like an observer watching a train crash than an active participant.

Although it's not that I don't care, it's just that no matter what else happens it's not gonna phase me. I'm emotionally numb. Cade could get hit by a buss and I'd just be like "yep, sounds about right." *shrug*

Different owners, different GMs, different coaches. But things can change - Lions are proving it now.

I can add a couple more depressing facts.

You say our last winning season was 2007-2008. Mr Davidson died in 2009. The franchise have been **** since. From 2009 to 2011 Joe D couldn't do much because Ms D was trying to sell the franchise, so he couldn't add long term salary. In 2011 Gores bought the franchise.

Since Gores bought the team, we have only had 2 all star players. Blake Griffin, once, Andre Drummond twice, one of those times he was a replacement.

There is no accident in any of this. We had possibly the best owner in the league, or at least a very good one. The franchise ownership situation have been bad since he died.

Gores is still the owner of the Detroit Pistons. Things have been bad since he bought the team, things will very likely continue to be bad. His intentions are good, he is a willing spender, but he is clueless.

They are doing it the right way. They built a culture and it starts with new ownership. Sheila Ford Hamp for calling draft picks from all rounds and talking with them telling them how excited she is to have them on the team, along with the GM and coach.... being in the lockerroom after big games, telling these guys how much they mean, etc.... when you have an owner, GM, and coach all there backing you up being there for you its a massive motivation to go out there and have that grit needed to play winning ball.

Not sure Gores will ever end up being the guy that sets the right culture in place and we've already seen rumblings about management tinkering causing problems from Noel.

1. The pistons haven’t won a playoff game since the first iPhone was released.

2. If you’re under 32 years old, the Pistons haven’t one a playoff game for over half your life

3. The pistons haven’t won a playoff game since George W was in office.

In the calendar year of 2023 we had three different losing streaks that were over 10 games.

But really it's 4, seeing as one of those streaks extended 28 games, so it should count as at least 2.

We were the first team to ever lose 10 straight three separate times in one calendar year, and we came 2 shy of essentially doing it 5 times.

There are fans graduating from high school this year with no living memory of a playoff win. Kids graduating from college for whom it is a fleeting memory from the first grade or kindergarten.

Hall of Fame careers have come and gone while we've been irrelevant. The rise and fall of the Heatles. The rise and continuation of the pace and space era. The rise of international superstars and the reshaping of the NBA that has come from the game becoming more and more globalized. I know not everyone likes the things I just mentioned but we didn’t even have a seat at the table while any of them were happening.

A TON has happened in the league since the last time we were good. And it's like we've sat the whole thing out.

A lot of it is drafting- I’d say that’s the biggest part. And our issues with drafting go VERY far back. Since after 1994 (29 drafts and counting) we’ve had exactly ONE player we drafted become an all star with us. ONE. And our other picks? I count ONE that became good enough to start on a good team (Tayshaun) while with us. That didn’t stop us from building a champ in the 00s but it made DAMN sure we had nothing to our name when that core ran its course. And it’s left us in perpetual rebuild since then.

And this is very significant. Take a look at good teams and you can almost always find a few bad trades or signings in their history, even as they built what they had today. You can survive some bad moves-even big ones. What no team can withstand is how truly awful our drafting has always been.

I’d love to say I’ve gotten to this point.

But I still want a win every time we go out there and it still feels lousy every time we don’t get one.

Usually by this point in the year I’m actually okay with tanking. I think enough is enough this year though. Great timing.

I'm at the stage where I'm passed sulking and is just interested in what we're going to do in the near future. Hope we keep the young guys around but still make some big changes.

I'm glad I'm old enough to have really watched and enjoyed the Going to Work run. Not quite old enough to have really followed the Bad Boys (though I was alive for them).
