I am with you.
Doc couldn't close the deal with these guys.
These guys are literally a who's who of some of the biggest chokers in modern NBA history.
Replace CP3 & Blake Griffin with Giannis and Dame on the Clippers when Doc was there and replace Simmons/Harden & Embiid with Giannis & Dame on the Sixers when Doc was there and how many NBA Finals appearances does Doc have on his resume? Like 5 or 6 if you include his 2 trips with the Celtics?
Doc put those guys in great position to do big things, but those guys couldn't close deal.
I think you'll find that not to be the case from people who followed those teams closely.
Barring one run I wouldn't say with great confidence Giannis being in those spots would be a guaranteed game changer. Dame just hasn't had enough big playoff moments to really evaluate properly either way.

Doc certainly has his flaws, all coaches do. But it’s easy to pin it all on him. Fact remains that he’s also coached a bunch of choke artists.

Embiid & Harden combined for a total of 24 pts in game 7 against Boston last season, hard for me to pin something like that on Doc Rivers. The Sixers lost a game 7 against the Hawks partly because Ben Simmons shrunk to the point he was terrified to attempt a lay up in the final minute of the game. Again, hard for me to pin that one on Doc.
Not saying Doc gets a free pass, but his stars haven't exactly been guys who you would want if you had to close a deal.
One thing you can't argue is that time and time again Doc puts his teams in position to do big things, if he didn't we wouldn't be having this conversation. The debate when it comes to those teams not being able to close is how much of it is Doc or the players? A lot of those players are habitual chokers and were chokers before and after they were coached by Doc.
As for Giannis, he's had some shaky playoff moments, but he's a guy I would trust to close to the deal. 50pts in a championship close out game is hall of fame stuff and when the Bucks were up 3-2 on the Celtics in 2022 like the Sixers were last season, Giannis had 44 & 20. Giannis' problem was that no one helped him out.
Dame is a guy who has won multiple playoff series on walk-off 3pt shots. If I am trying to close a deal, Dame is one of the top guys in the league who I would want on my squad.

The bucks are better tonight than they were this morning.
Good chnce the guys bear down regardless of who comes next
Anybody is better than what we had
Get a good guy even if its a retread
Doc suits me if were gonna rely on talent
Obviously firing Bud was a massive **** up
i'll watch the games again after tonight with positive upbeat optimism

The heat should be on Jon Horst. We have a poorly constructed roster. We gave away Donte, Wes, Carter, Jrue, PJ, Allen and we're surprised why our perimeter defence sucks?
Hiring a first year coach for a team with championship asperations is just dumb, but that's on Horst too.
Horst has sold our future by signing Lopez, Portis and Middleton to big contracts and all three play antiquated basketball. Put that on Jon Horst too.

Nah you need to sign Lopez/Portis/Middleton. They are basically salary that you use it or lose it. Portis is also on a pretty team friendly deal.

Yep, people need to be prepared that the team may *look* largely the same for a whileMickeyDavis wrote:Whoever takes over, don't expect a lot of quick changes. We have 4 games in the next 6 nights and a long road trip. Very few practices.

You’ve got the 2024 version of Shaq and Kobe on your roster. You need someone who can command respect in the lockeroom, and at the same time give them freedom.
Doc fits that bill. Atkinson does not. It’s that simple.
(And I think most of you realize this is all Kabuki theater right now for PR purposes. This deal is done).

Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
Serious question here, I've brought it up before. Is Dame a good fit for this team, and I mean that beyond his playing abilities. I know Griffin probably had a lot to do with some chemistry issues, but I wonder who the real Dame is and will he ever be, or is he happy here. I've never seen this team fight amongst each other as they have this year, and now the inside reports coming out about Dame not being happy with his role. Should we consider trading Dame, or do you think a new coach can make it all work the way we hoped it could?

I don’t think they could even get Atkinson at this point. We’re past the halfway point in the season, the Warriors have no reason to help us out by letting him out of his contract. If we fired Griff 2 months ago sure, but it’s too late. Has to be someone like Doc (has seemed the obvious choice for a while now) or Stotts.
