Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
LOL I don't think he is a first round pick but I understand your frustration. I'm pretty much alone in my "Ryan Kalkbrenner would be a good pick for Boston at 30" thought process. Most places have him in the 60's.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Alright I know this is pretty much throwing kerosene onto an open flame. But we are about halfway through the college and G League seasons. We now are starting to get a solid sample size of what these guys are looking like against higher competition. What's everyone's overall thoughts on this draft.
Top tier talent?
Depth?
International talent?
Ill give my thoughts from the domestic side.
Top tier talent: F
Depth C-
Ive said multiple times, I dont watch international ball so I have no clue when it comes to how those guys look outside of highlights and other people's write ups.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
I think Risacher, Ja'Kobe, Holland, Flip, Sarr, and Sheppard profile as average NBA starters.
Cody Williams and Topic haven't played enough.
I don't see any likely stars unless Cody Williams or Topic have an incredible end to their seasons.

Not a big college basketball fan.
Just wondering for those who follow their thoughts on Cody Williams?

I think Justin Edwards needs to not only return for his Sophomore year but also transfer.
Don't think he gets drafted if he declares.

Kentucky got rocked by the Gamecocks tonight. It'll be interesting to see how their freshman play come SEC tournament time. Road games in college seem to be getting harder and harder to win, even with stacked rosters.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Jamir Watkins, ex-VCU Ram that produced Vince Williams. Playing for Florida State now and has been their best player. I'm guessing with workouts, he's going to get a chance to be picked in the second round. 6'7, 210 lb wing defender who can also put the ball on the floor. Wouldn't shock me if Memphis went after him either since he has the same type of motor as Vince.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
I’ve had Topic as number 1 in this class, but Cody Williams is definitely making his case, and probably looks like the most likely top pick at this stage.
And yes, his genetics play a part. Jalen Williams’ wild success so far definitely tip the scales in Cody’s favour when weighing up whether his game will be successful in the league.

Kentucky, where wings go to die
He'll most likely declare and go same range as Chris Livingston did last year

I imagine less stars and less rotation players, but still some hidden gems throughout the draft.

he's similar to Jimmy Butler. I have a hard time believing he won't be picked in the first round

not sure how genetics plays into it tbh. He's a completely different player with a completely different build. I'm evaluating him on his own merit and right now he seems to lack aggressiveness and smarts but has the profile and skill level for his size that suggests he'll develop into an NBA starter. Maybe a #3 at best but likely a #4. A Warriors version of Wiggins maybe?

Cody Williams is already much craftier and skilled on the ball than Wiggins. Completely different players. Teams will want to give the ball to Williams to create. How good he'll be at that determines his ceiling. But right now, I think he's the #1 prospect playing in college.

I think Williams has a ways to go athletically and strength-wise to be an on-ball creator in the NBA as a primary or secondary. I am hoping he gets there though but it is far from a guarantee. Has a nice floor as role-playing 3&D wing though, which is a valuable thing in itself.

Eh, obviously he needs to add to his frame but that's to be expected. I actually don't think he has a great floor as a 3&D wing because neither shooting nor defense are his main selling points. His main selling point is that he is already a skilled and creative on-ball player with great size. Obviously there's no guarantee that he'll be a high-level on-ball creator in the NBA but that's what teams will be looking for when drafting him.

Topic hasn't played enough? Most of the NCAA guys have played liked 17 games.
Topic has played in 19 games. Plus he played in 1 exhibition vs USC in the preseason (the full game is online), about 7 games last summer at FIBA U18 and 37 games last season..
Cody Williams has played like 11 games for Colorado + another 7 last summer at FIBA U19 so 10 total..
Shaedon Sharpe played 0 games and still went top 10. Garland played like 5 games and went in the top 5.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

No. People need to stop saying this.
Ron Harper's kid can't even get any minutes in the NBA. Scottie Pippen's kid went undrafted, so did Shaq's kid.
Keegan Murray's brother can't get minutes in the NBA.
Jrue Holiday's brothers are not that good - they're both barely holding on to NBA roster spots, while Jrue is an all-star.
Cody is a good prospect. He's no. 2 on my board right now. But this logic makes no sense.

I agree and thats why I have it at a C-. Which isnt bad but slightly below average. To me the main thing that hurts the depth is how bad the top is. And because of that guys who should be going late 1st now maybe going lotto. Guys who would be going late lotto could be going top 7.

How many players in the top 10 last year would you trade for the #1 pick this year?
