His game log is crazy and he actually started off relatively slow. Over his last 9 games, he's averaging 22.7 ppg on shooting splits of 58/35. He's shot over 50% in 9 of the 12 games.

19 pts, 50% fg
14 pts, 42% fg
14 pts, 50% fg
37 pts, 65% fg
23 pts, 77% fg
24 pts, 63% fg
4 pts, 22% fg
24 pts, 58% fg
26 pts, 64% fg
17 pts, 38% fg
20 pts, 53% fg
29 pts, 67% fg

Idk if his 55% shooting is sustainable but the Raptors eliminated his mid range shots and limited his 3 point shooting. Hopefully he continues to see the value in that and it carries forward. He'll continue to be efficient if so. Beyond the shooting, his next step are becoming a better playmaker and finishing to his right more.

RJ is that 3 level scorer that we have been looking for - certainly more so than Scottie B. I never thought Scottie would be a high level scorer but he is a very good overall basketball player. Still laughing at people who think he was just a throw-in salary filler; a toxic contract. Masai believes in RJ and he is definitely part of the core.

And this is without the 3 falling so maybe this is semi sustainable

Not to mention he's shooting 66% from the charity stripe - when he's an 80% FT shooter.

Don't see any reason why he can't continue on being a 20 ppg guy at least. He's getting all of this off smart cuts to the rim and aggressive drives right now, cutting the mid range out, and it's working for him as his efficiency is spiking. His footwork on some of these drives have been very demar-like.

Glad that he's showing a bit that he was a top 3 pick in a highly touted draft for a reason. That doesn't mean he's gonna be some future all-nba talent or anything but I think he's a good future building block next to Barnes.

i love that he's not shy with the media. also the self-awareness that he specifically acknowledge that he needs to get better at free throws.

i want to know if that's the wildest he can open his eyes. He has the Tmac half asleep look for sure.

Almost all his points are coming in the paint. He's far from a 3 level scorer, but that makes what he's done right now even more impressive.

Ideally you dont want RJ scoring at 3 levels lmao his midrange game isnt good and im glad hes traded those for more float/push shot range 3-10 foot shots. RJs scoring should mostly be from drives with 4-5 spot up 3s a night. Im pretty happy with his shot selection right now but its yet to be seen if hes cut out all his bad habits.

How we are using him reminds me a lot of how Shawn Marion was used during much of his career. A slasher, a guy who put pressure on the rim consistently and who was a demon in transition. Can hit the open 3 and the midrange jumper, but those aren't the shots they're looking for.

Its funny because people downplayed his athleticism but to be a pure finisher/slasher on good efficiency in the modern era you have to be decently athletic. Thats been his role so far on the raps.

Do we think he could be a 2nd option on a contending team behind Scottie?

I would have so no chance at first, but if I squint, I think I see it, maybe? sort of kind of?

Yes, RJ has been consistent playing well 11 of 12 games. A 20 pt scorer getting to the rim and drawing fouls. The issue is getting consistent role players (3&D starter) and a bench.

He's not super athletic but finish above the rim way more than Trent who had a 39.5 in max very at draft combine. Trent lost all his athleticism

It's not the mid range. His number around the rim and 3-10ft are a lot better than in NY. They'll probably come back down. One reason they might not though is that more of his 2p fg are assisted in Toronto than NY. All of this is comparing this year only btw

Good to see how the momentum has gone over to RJ.

IQ got way too much hype like he was the younger player. I still can't believe Masai pulled that off.

That's the problem with analytics and not watching the games:
Anyone that watched the playoffs last year would have known that RJ>>IQ.
At barely 21, you don't just average 20 at MSG if you are not a special player.
