I feel relatively secure in saying that Doc is the last coach that Jon Horst will ever hire, short of the team winning another championship.

you gotta think Horst and Doc agreed on this back in December ... all this waiting to see who they will hire was just optics

Griffin discourse was so brutal (not here, referring mostly to twitter), like you had dudes calling racism over that Brewhoop article and others who questioned Griffin, meanwhile Horst was out here setting the table for a replacement like 5-6 weeks into the season and was probably out on Griffin even before then lol

No it's not. If you run a business well, you do things like this. Hiring Griffin was a gamble. It didn't work out so you move on. Sometimes you need to take a gamble. We took one in 2013.

I don't get the hate Doc is getting on this board. He brings instant credibility and experience. Can't wait to see him getting all over the officials, too. I'm in.

Other teams are (probably rightfully) laughing at us, but my spin on this is that if Giannis wins a title with Doc, he’s instantly top 5 all time lol

As long as Giannis stays I think Horst will have a job.

There is so much on the line for this team. Giannis is knocking on the top 10, Dame gets the validation of a championship, Doc gets to shed a mantle, the owners get to justify their spending, Horst keeps his job. If they don't play like their asses are on fire now, then they truly have no heart and it's time to rebuild/retool.

What kind of changes will Doc make?

What kind of changes CAN he make at this point in the season?

Well I'm concerned about AJJ's minutes or any other younger guy on the roster. Doc loves clinging to older vets.

Hopefully Horst can Doc-proof the roster a bit before the deadline.

Griffin was a disaster hire and Doc has baggage, but I'm just ready to be a fan without it feeling like pulling teeth again. Call it cope, maybe it is, but I'm feeling better today than I was Monday.

Its hard to quantify how bad of a coach Griff actually was, its pretty much impossible for Doc to not look good in comparison at this point. It seriously was an all time bad hire, a fireable offense IMO. The defense was so nonsensical and the offense was just our talented players figuring it out on their own(they were completely lost at the beginning of the season), get rid of the stupid pressuring and protect the rim. Move Beasley to the bench, hopefully acquire a guard who can defend.

Unless he can remake the defense REAL quick, what good is he?

Well ****.

Still a huge improvement over maybe the worst coach I've ever seen.

I assume(hope) that's what Doc has been doing the last month, realistically I wonder who they could actually sign all his assistants from before have other jobs.

They should've at least said Mark Jackson was also a candidate so that I could rationalize Doc even more.

That’s the only part I liked about Griff. He played AJJ and Marjon. I think mainly because they were the only ones that could kind of follow his insane defensive scheme. But still, they got playing time.

I don’t expect Doc to play any young guys.

Anyone have a convenient list of former Doc assistants currently without jobs?
