The optimal plan is to tank hard this year. The Blazers are competing and it won't take much for us to rev up a tank and get past them in the tankathon. It would be huge for our odds of retaining the pick, although there is no guarantees.

Barnes, IQ, and RJ are all going to be better next season. They will have another year of experience, a summer and training camp together. There's no way based on that alone we are a worse team next year.

Stack up as much caproom as possible. Then sign Miles Bridges and Claxton. They have their flaws but we aren't a FA destination.

This is my optimal build. We have two steady vets in Schroder and Poeltl who can guide the incoming rookies off the bench. The starters have immense levels of rim protection, shooting, athleticism, and rim pressure.

they can make a run at Claxton this summer, but would cost something similar to Pöltl. then you're paying two 5's $40 million and neither can stretch the floor.

Bridges isn't even an UFA until the summer of 2026 either and probably ends up a Knick with their Villanova mafia they got going on over there.

Staggering rookie scale contracts is probably the right call. Obviously the chance that they all pan out to the point where their first extension is a lot higher in salary is generally low, but you'd still want to prep for that kind of scenario.

Drafting a couple players each year seems like a good bet.

boucher has another year on his deal for $11 mil so he may not have a good market this deadline unless we take on more money - which i don't think we should. we may end up moving him in the summer.

No question about it. 37% chance right now we get a top 4 pick and then we can play a rookie a ton of minutes, along with Grady, and end up with another top 5 pick.
