Re: Raptors plan is to tank next year
We tank this year and have the rest of year to develop, next year we will try and see at beginning of the season and see how this group work.

Unless the bottom falls out, and these guys can't cut it...I don't see how they can sell seats tanking.

Exclude outlier is not acceptable? Then why filter by rookie contract?
I think the goal is to get the same category for comparison, and outlier are most likely not in the same category, right?
Are you comparing a DYoP who would be playing 33mins+ against someone who at most play 27mins to think they should are in the same category or talent level?
Meanwhile, if you not excluding Claxton, then Poeltl would be even more overpaid.
No. They are not outliers based on the criteria set.
Why filter by rookie contract, because it's obviously disingenuous to include rookie scale contracts when comparing Yaks current salary. That's bordering ridiculous to even consider honestly.
You are stating that he is overpaid, and that his salary shouldn't be compared to Bam or Gobert because they play slightly more minutes, and are objectively better? So that skews the avg pay up? Well duhhh better players get paid more. If anything Gobert and Bam are suppressed due to the max salary structure in place.
Based on your responses, I don't think you are capable of looking at numbers and drawing objective conclusions.
They played slightly more?
Anyway, the objective conclusion is that we are going to tank next year, and not able to trade Poeltl for young players or picks would be disappointing.
I agree. I think in most scenarios we will be 'tanking' next year, and the Poeltl issue is somewhat disappointing for all involved. I'm sure he wants to compete. I'm sure we want additional rebuild pieces for him instead of a lost top 6 protected pick.

I like the OPs thinking. You have to Flagg this as a great opportunity at drafting a superstar.
Aside from Cooper Flagg, I wonder if Cam Boozer comes out as well. He is Carlos Boozers son and I think he has some real star potential.
I think 2025 will be a really fun draft year if things line up. Toronto tanking is one approach or making trades for 2025 picks is another. We could even trade a couple 2024s for a higher 2025 pick.
This year just has so many weirdo prospects that may not pan out.

The 2025 draft also gives you an opportunity to sell the sizzle. The pick will have lots of value. You don't have to draft anyone to benefit from that.
