All the Giannis haters are using this as another reason to hate on him today.

When do we think Doc takes over? Tomorrow? Saturday? Monday against the Nuggets?

Doc is going to be coaching the Milwaukee Bucks for the foreseeable future, he'd have to totally **** the bed in humiliating fashion for his seat to even get warm this season
The Bucks need a good x's and o's guy who is a decent communicator and the players will listen to.
that is not what they need
You make a convincing argument.

You're so convincing that I change my mind. We need someone who is not a detail guy, but is a big name that has celebrity status and has a lot of big time defeats.
Having said all that, if Rivers brings Joerger, who I have been pushing for well before the firing, and keeps Prunty, I'm fine with it.

Aren't you the one who said Griff was a big upgrade on Bud coming into this season? Considering Rivers is basically just a worse version of Bud how is this what the Bucks need?
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Assuming he's in town I imagine he will meet with the team at practice today and take over on the bench tomorrow night. But maybe all the paperwork takes longer.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Re: Griffin fired!- Doc Hired
This thread is too many pages, so I'm not sure if anyone talked about it yet or not, but Gilbert Arenas on Gil's Arena teased that he had big NBA news before the Griffin firing went public. He mentioned that players were upset by the offense, citing the lack of PNRs being used. He also mentioned players were very unhappy with the defensive sets, with Brook being the most upset about the scheme and his usage.
Later Griffin.
Later Griffin.

just like the Bucks i was wrong.
This team clearly needs a veteran voice to lead them.

ETA: we need somewhat competent coach. Doc is at least that. But yes I’d take Bud over him

What’s up with the Thanasis rumors, did he and Griff clash or something?

The most impressive thing Doc has ever done was leading that 18/19 Clippers team to 48 wins and taking 2 off of the fully healthy Warriors. Their best players were Galinari, Tobes until he got traded and Lou Williams.

I suppose Horst chose Rivers. I doubt he fires Rivers no matter what, he will get fired next.
Rivers will only go if we fail completely and the owners step in and fire him together with Horst.

Think ownership realized they needed a guy of equal stature with the veteran all-stars on the team. That's Doc's strength.
Dave Joerger will provide the x and o's stuff.
I actually think this could work out tremendously well.
I'm not even sure what "equal stature" means. Are Nate McMillan and Steve Nash of equal stature?
Giannis, Dame, et al, will respect whoever is coach if they know what they are doing in terms of x's and o's, flexibility, and communication. And they won't give a damn about their "stature" without those three things.

You're back in the 1950's. The modern NBA superstar is an island of power onto themselves. For many, they won't listen to people who they don't see as on their level. Doesn't matter how smart the person is.

Hey, I go back to the forties.
Are you telling me that if the Bucks could somehow get Mark Daigneault to coach here, they'd tune him out?

Re: Griffin fired!- Doc Hired
Just superficially reviewing Doc's record, and it's so long that there are plenty of examples to suit any narrative. He's got mid rosters that overachieved, he's got elite rosters that underachieved, he's got a ring, he's got disappointing exits, and he's got lots and lots of rough injuries at critical junctures.
Two seasons for the optimists I want to pull out: 1 is the midseason Tobias trade year where a 48-win Lou Will and Gallo led team took the KD Warriors to 6 games in the first round. Then the year we won it, winning 4 straight to close out Utah and make the WCF even after losing Kawhi late in game 4.
He's not one thing or the other. He's got everything in his history.

Don't know. But OKC is a different situation. Young guys looking to make their mark.
We've got two top 75 players of all time. Capable of ordering their own trades and coach firings. Along with two very respected all-stars in Middleton and Brook, who seen a lot, and think they know a lot.
You need a different type of guy to relate and communicate with them. It's like the movie Spinal Tap, when Nigel Tufnel closed the backseat limo window on driver Bruno Kirby. The kids don't understand Frank Sinatra.

After more digging myself and looking at lots of different opinions on here specifically (because RealGM Bucks is the best place for hoops on the internet), I’ve made peace with the negative narrative and I’ve come around to the idea that since his Boston days, Doc may be over scrutinized by the public eye in an unfair way. I’ve seen it mentioned already and I do agree that if you gave Doc 2 players like Dame and more specifically Giannis, does he still blow those series leads and game 7s every single time? He’s coached habitual chokers over so many years he probably is undeserving to solely blame him. I think Giannis and this roster being so battle tested with championship pedigree should prove Doc is atleast capable of getting the job done. Similar to his time in Boston. Even if it’s just 1 more ring and long term the team flounders with age and what not, I can live with that.
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

Also, if you're a good enough coach on good teams to be in the playoffs for like 20 years straight you're going to have bad exits to the playoffs. Its pretty much inevitable as you're not gonna win the title every year. Sure, not the greatest coach ever but he's a good one. And its a positive after being in it for as long as has that he hasn't seemed to lose the connection or ability to work with the younger players. Essentially it seems he hasn't gotten burned out or let the game pass him by.

Doc just needs to keep the guys committed to what they're good at and not be rigid during a playoff series. He should have enough cache that he can call the guys out when it's needed. But the willingness to take input from the roster as well.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS
