What most annoyed me in this game was the stretch between 7:30 and 4:30 left of the third quarter where the Grizzlies were floundering on offense, made a bunch of bad turnovers and bad shots in a row and we let them off the hook with some terrible play on the fast break and boneheaded turnovers on our own. That's where we should have made a decisive run but we didn't. Of course we still had chances and predictably tightened up the defence in the fourth which gave us a shot. But it never should have been this close against such a shorthanded team.
112.8 ORTG against a Memphis team which played an 5'8' guy for 14 minutes and Kennard for 30 minutes just won't go it done. I like Black as a long term prospect but if we want to make the playoffs we really can't have him play extended minutes, offensively he is just not ready. Cole is just embarassing lately and Fultz shows some flashes but his completely refusal to shoot from outside is hindering the team. Ingles is also on a bad streak lately, his passing hasn't been as sharp as it was most of the season and his shooting has been off.
We are down to 25th in ORTG, with the gap to the 24th ranked Chicago growing, and the only teams behind us are the blatantly tanking ones and Memphis, who have had Ja out almost all season, Bane has missed 20+ games and Adams, whose offensive rebounding is huge for their offense, has been out all year. We are also currently dead last in 3 point percentage and makes. The only players in the whole roster with a TS% above the league average are the centres - nobody else (Suggs is right at the league average). Our three PGs have made a total 71 threes all season, that's 1.57 threes per game. That's really depressing in the 3 point era. And the guy wresponsible for the vast majority of this is shooting 32% from 3.
Paolo is down to 53.6 TS% and while a lot of this is on him and his shot selection, he is certainly not helped by our horrendous spacing and lack of playmaking. None of our PGs get him easy looks more than once in a blue moon and they are all killing his spacing, even Cole who is getting ignored on the perimeter a lot lately, no wonder given his current percentages. I don't know what more our management needs to make a move.
