They just gave him a mega contract just to move him?
I think you're confusing him and Johnson, who got a big extension this summer.

Bridges has two seasons after this one on the relatively cheap deal he signed with Phoenix. He'll be getting like $50mil per in his next contract. Why I say he could be traded is it's likey this is the absolute peak of his trade value so while I'm sure the Nets will deny they would trade him they will quietly listen and if they get bowled over by a deal might be tempted to take it.

My bad, yes I was confusing Bridges with CamJ. Thanks for the explanation WPG.

This is just a brutal team to discuss on a day to day basis especially here since there's an underlying current of negativity at all times. More than any other suns team ever this is a work in progress group where all they will be judged on is their playoff performance.

They look great at times and other times they look like a group who's never played together.

I'm pretty optimistic but they really really need to figure out a couple more dudes they can trust in the rotation.

There's a ton of posters here that want the Suns to fail. It's weird.

My main concern was trading entire team causing us to lose significant chemistry in just a single season. But I understand it’s a work in progress for everyone involved to figure things out before playoffs.

So size and athleticism!!
It seems that most everyone is beginning to understand that this whole skilled But small and unathletic older IQ over natural physical ability gimmick is not a recipe to win a championship. It's not the worst idea, BUT you definitely need a healthy mix of BOTH kinds of players to counter varying dynamics in specific matchups.

Especially when it comes to the much more physical grind it out chess match of the playoffs wherein our teams obvious weaknesses/ shortcomings will be schemed and picked apart strategically throughout various series. Our big three just isn't durable enough nor dominant ( consistent enough) to overcome our current size and athletic deficits. They're also way to finesse and passive to overcome the bigger and more physical teams that'll employ that strategy successfully against us in higher intensity playoff series.

We HAVE TO add more size, more athleticism, more tenacity, grit and physically aggressive or at least assertive and physically dominant players to our roster to mor end up a 2nd round to conference finals exit at best!

Based on JJ's body of work I think JJ hates athletic big men and point guards. :D

Now I guess he bucked the trend when he traded Dario for Bazley, we could certainly use either of those guys but more Dario as he can be a part time playmaker and it doesn't hurt that he has some size.

A bit off-topic but horrible news about Dave King from BSOTS and other blogs, etc. Sounds like a recent diagnosis of brain cancer and dies a few months later.

Enjoyed reading his stuff through the years. Blogged about the Suns for many years - good times and bad

RIP to you sir and thoughts to you and your family

Damn Dave King is a long time Suns fan. I know he took a lot of heat in recent years from fans on twitter as he was a very staunch Ayton supporter. He took any criticism on Ayton very, very personally. But the guy was here through all those 19 win teams and even before that. He’s definitely a Suns lifer.

I think he had an actual close relationship with Ayton as well in real life which was one of the reasons he went to bat hard for him. Would be nice if Ayton could acknowledge Dave’s passing as well.

Anyway, definitely prayers and wishes to his family and friends. RIP Dave.

He does make good points though, but it just rubs me the wrong way he never talks about us until we have bad times.

Yeah! I don't care much about his show or perspectives too often. But I have to say that I do think his assessment here regarding our fairly obvious issues are accurate and on point. We have a fair amount to be really positive about at times, BUT our significant positional/matchup weaknesss do need to be assertively addressed IF we're going to be legitimate contenders. Our "all in" moves are encouraging and AT TIMES exciting! But we did our moves a bit hastily and without diligent planning for how we'd address our critical depth issues post framework to support our big three as we just can't expect those three to carry the entire load each night by themselves throughout the entire season and through the playoffs too.

They'll be worn out and broken down before we ever make our goal of a championship if we can't get more production and impact off the bench to afford them more significant rest time (load management) down the stretch! Plus all the teams now have a template of how to beat us in the playoffs, and the legit contenders will exploit our weaknesses every chance they get in matchups. :-?

Man, what sad news.

Suns Could Take Unique Path at Trade Deadline
Rather than using a player, the Phoenix Suns could look to move their trade exception gained from the Cameron Payne deal.
DONNIE DRUIN
UPDATED:4 HOURS AGO

PHOENIX -- As the NBA's Feb. 8 trade deadline crawls closer, you'll see plenty of trade talk around the league - and the Phoenix Suns are no exception.

Currently sitting at 27-20 on the year, Phoenix has shaken their early season injury woes and have bounced back as of late after winning their last eight-of-ten.

Their star trio of Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker continues to find continuity on the court while various role players shuffle for positioning in the rotation come playoff time.

Thanks to their positioning in the luxury tax and lack of draft capital, the Suns don't exactly have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to trade resources.

Phoenix has reportedly been shopping Nassir Little and a handful of second-round picks they still own, though ESPN's Brian Windhorst suggested the team could look to take a different route.

In his article going through each team's most likely player to be dealt, the Suns didn't have a player listed, but rather the $6.5 million trade exception acquired in the Cameron Payne trade over the summer from the San Antonio Spurs. "The Suns can't trade any first-round picks, plus they have a full roster, very limited trade options and a $50 million tax bill. But owner Mat Ishbia is very aggressive, and the front office is creative," wrote Windhorst.

In short, the $6.5 million exception can theoretically represent the salary of a player in a trade and can be combined with picks/cash/players so long as Phoenix has an open roster spot.

The exception will expire at the end of this season - so the Suns would need to use it by the trade deadline. It's not often you see NBA trades with exceptions included, though it's a unique way for teams deep in the luxury tax to navigate the trade market.

Phoenix has to like the overall upward trend of play from their roster now that they're finally healthy, though it will be interesting to see if changes are made to the lineup before the end of next week.

More on who the Suns could target at the deadline:

NBA Insider Reveals List of Suns Trade Targets-
The Phoenix Suns are reportedly eying these players on the trade market.

DONNIE DRUIN
JAN 26, 2024 4:48 PM EST

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns are on a roll, having won their last seven games approaching tonight's contest against the Indiana Pacers.

Though they continue to climb up the Western Conference standings, the Suns are also actively searching for ways to improve their squad in the trade market.

As the Feb. 8 deadline approaches, deals around the league are slowly beginning to heat up.

Yahoo! NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed the following about the Suns and who they are targeting:

"Phoenix only has second-round capital at its disposal, plus Nassir Little and his four-year, $28 million contract, to consider for legitimate upgrades, as Phoenix appears intent on keeping Grayson Allen," wrote Fischer.

"While the Suns were once considered primarily shopping for guards – and they remain connected to players in that salary range such as Delon Wright and Monte Morris, sources said – the Suns now seem to be generally looking at various rotation-level players, ranging from Jae’Sean Tate to Royce O’Neale, sources said, to Miles Bridges and Charlotte teammate Nick Richards." Arizona Sports insider John Gambadoro added on Twitter/X the Suns are indeed interested in acquiring O'Neale.

There's been plenty of talk surrounding what Phoenix could possibly maneuver in the trade market given their lack of resources and capital. Allen projects as the biggest trade chip, though the Suns appear to be much better off keeping him in the lineup.

Allen said he'd like to stick around, too.

Man that’s a bummer about king. I wasn’t a big fan of the content he put out, but he did a lot for the community and you can’t hate on selflessness he consistently showed. Life is good folks. Suns basketball and sports is just men’s soap opera’s. Ain’t that important.
"Mannnnn I’m like the guy that pissed this whole board off saying literally all year no Mikal, no Mikal in the KD trade."

Return to Phoenix Suns
