The 11 teams controlling most of the first-round draft capital are the Brooklyn Nets, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Orlando Magic, Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz.

Yay, we're one of these teams.

And realistically only 2 teams for sure might move some of them - OKC and NYC. Maybe Orlando? The other teams I don't think have any immediate interest in trading first round draft capital this year.

Stockpiling picks is a good idea for us. There will be teams like the Hawks and the (last season) Raptors who chose to build that we could pick talent off of.

I'd guess the next team to blow it up will be the Bulls, Hawks, and the Warriors. I would take a sturdy ex all star vet that can be a starting caliber 3 and D player.

There's a benefit to having a playable star player, with leadership qualities, next to a bunch of under 25 guys. I don't think we're there as of now but a few seasons down the road after we've tanked.

Who's the 3&D guy you're thinking of? I think hunter on atl, possibly wiggins on gsw. Who on the bulls qualifies for that? not demar, but I like him. not zach lavine either, but he would be amazing on the raps and pretty well exactly what we would need. Only thing, we would need at least a first to take on his contract. Same with Wiggins, but his contract is at least palatable if he's playing up to career norms.
I believe in Masai.

All this shows me is teams are no longer overvaluing picks I wonder when fans will catch up. Unless you’re picking top 5 you’re better off trading them for an established star.

Klay would be interesting. He would be able to do a bench role at minimum and help us get into the play in and develop some talent from the experience gained there. Barrett is big enough to play SF although a big SF that could shoot well would pair well with him.

My optimal build would be something like:

Ivisic (6th)
Barnes
Barrett
Thompson
IQ

Then bench guys like Dick and our other late picks and maybe a MLE and vet min signing. The goal would be to get into the play in. When a player like Thompson completely ages out you swap in Dick with the other prime guys.

Makes me smile.

Ainge is the master of fake hustle. One thing that people misunderstand about having a ton of draft picks is that the point isn’t to draft all of them but cash them in at some point for win now players. Ainge got too stingy and mismanaged what should have been a dynasty. Its no surprise as soon as Brad Stevens got on board and didnt get infatuated with picks, they end up in the finals and are an elite team.

I think prime Klay would be a no brainer, and if what we’re looking for is a vet to help Gradey, that also works. As a starter? I’d rather develop the kids. Think of the opportunity cost of starting Klay, especially if you think we can only make the play-in.

Apparently he wouldn’t part with picks and one of brown/tatum for prime Anthony Davis when he was being shopped from New Orleans.

That’s where they screwed up. And if you look at a bunch of the guys they got aside from brown and Tatum they never amounted to much
