Man it seems like Knicks and Cavs are going to be impossible to catch. Even the Pacers seem hard to catch with the way we play.
Its looking like we are a play-in team.

Yup. Longshot to land top 6. Play-in will be hella fun, though.DiplomaticMagic wrote:Man it seems like Knicks and Cavs are going to be impossible to catch. Even the Pacers seem hard to catch with the way we play.

What does this have to do with replacing Cole with Tyus?

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic General Season Thread
Orlando Magic Have Played In More Tight Games Down the Stretch On the Road Than Any Other Team
NBA.com link: Down the Stretch
This is not a surprise at all. Orlando is 15th in points differential sitting at +0.5 ppg. By literally being average, the Magic will statistically be in a lot of close games.
The good news here for Orlando is that the team's ppg differential is significantly better than the Heat's. Playing out over the final 35, there is a better than 50/50 chance the Magic will win the South East. (that is, Miami is actually less than mediocre right now as far as scoring differential goes: 20th in the league).

With the Knicks at +6 ppg better than the Magic on points differential and the Cavs at +4, really the target for Orlando is the Pacers.
I cannot see any path of the Magic landing higher than the 5 seed. (or lower than the 8 seed).

These projections are all with the team as presently (un)constructed...one significant move would make a huge difference in our ability to match offense while still generating excellent defense.

Tyus starts with Suggs. Black plays with Cole.
Black is so big, he could be moved around situationally, as a defensive player primarily...while he's getting a handle on offense. Black and Suggs is a lottery ticket starting backcourt (for now).
Tyus is a big improvement, but still a small step. I really hope they aim higher.

Let me live in my fantasy of Fultz and Okeke for Luke Kennard and Derrick Rose for another day. Please.

I'd love to make that deal for Tyus and I would immediately follow it up with Memphis.
Cole & Okeke for Kennard. Memphis then gets a solid backup PG for Ja on a decent contract for the next few years. Orlando adds a more consistent SG in Kennard who can snipe.
Tyus/Black
Suggs/Kennard
Not sure this would work Memphis also has Smart so think Cole might be overlap but who knows.

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic General Season Thread
Hot take...
I think people are sleeping on and underrating Franz's overall improvement because his shooting efficiency is worse than last year.
I think his defense is better this year than it's ever been. His rebounding is way up.
I also think people are underestimating how impressive it is for a young player to increase their usage - which has led to quality gains in PPG and APG - while DECREASING turnovers at the same time.
TL:DR - Franz is improved across the board at pretty much everything except 3PT shooting and people don't realize it because of the 5% drop in 3PT shooting.

That is not very spicy at all.
We can say the same thing about Suggs + Paolo. Everything is headed in the correct direction. Our biggest issue right now is letting our draft picks grow organically combined with lack of on court veteran presence.
