Precious Achiuwa
I never understood the unreasonable hate Achiuwa got from Raptors fans....
I'd much rather have him over Boucher....

Because he cannot co-exist with Barnes due to lack of shooting and play the same position.
The Knicks has enough guards for shooting and perhaps create for Achiuwa, so he is a better fit with the Knicks (or it is just the Raptors never able to make use of any rotation players).

You will understand better when he’s out of the NBA in a few years

He had a good game. Relax. He had those with us, too. The problem with Precious is that he's dumb as bricks and you can't teach basketball IQ. He'll have a good game every now and then because he's an elite athlete but he'll have far more terrible games than good ones over an entire season.

I've always been a believer in Precious because he has elite physical tools and does a couple things really well. Thibs is the ideal coach for him. He needs a coach that will set boundaries and force his role players to play within them.

He's like the defensive version of Kenneth Faried. He went 0 for 3 from deep. He needs to stop shooting it until he develops it in practice to a level that doesn't hurt the team.

Well looks like Thibs is telling you otherwise... He is literally doing just that: teaching him basketball IQ.

Re: Precious Achiuwa
he can be a good play finisher if he's surrounded by high iq players to make up for his own lack of bb iq, we also gave him way way too much rope to do w/e the hell he was trying to do
he started in miami being way too boxed in, we opened up things for him to try which was good but once we saw that it wasn't working none of our coaches reeled him in. just became comedic at the end like so many other things on our team

We tried to mold him into a 3+D pf/small c. He actually looked solid during the 21-22 season but his regressed afterwards. Easily could have been looking at a 30+ million contract if kept improving.

He is not. Precious still has zero feel for the game.

When your top guys can't really produce advantages for your role players on the offensive end consistently. it makes it hard to make use of those guys who can't really do anything on the offensive end at an average NBA level. If Lowry and Kawhi were here, a lot of these guys would look a lot better

He has always reminded me of poor man's Faried. Exact same size. Faried could look like a world beater one night, and the next night look like he shouldn't even be in the NBA. Out of the league at age 29.

We’ve seen good stretches from him when he was here. Nothing new. Looks like he gets less freedom under Thibs. Maybe be better for him. Classic tweener

Re: Precious Achiuwa
He kinda raised the bar for himself when he first arrived and showed a few flashes of promise: interior and perimeter defense, decent handles (enough to bring the ball up) and a pretty solid 3 ball.
Then something happened. His shot wouldn’t drop. He looks clueless out there on the other end. Whether that’s lack of reps or whatever, who knows.
I always thought there was room to grow. I recall feeling good about his per/48 a few years ago but thought he’d be a great replacement for Pascal eventually, if we were going to pivot to a Scottie-centered team earlier.
Oh well wishing them luck.

Idk when people are gonna get that the NBA (and team sports in general) are about FIT. It's not just about whether the players you have are good or have skills or not. It's about how the pieces come together to make a team.

Soon he will feel comfortable enough to play outside himself and will be glued to the bench

He has spurts, where he's interested. That goes away and we get the guy we all know.

Re: Precious Achiuwa
I felt that Precious could be an elite defender and even better rebounder than OG. My hopes were for him to just focus on defense and become a modern Dennis Rodman.
It never quite happened in Toronto. I think Darko was enamoured with expanding his offense and he regressed in that role. He really shouldn't be a decision maker. More just a finisher and hustle guy
The Knicks got a steal from us because they got a mini OG as a basic throw in. We tank our season partially because after Poeltl went down we had no bigs to fill in. No question that the Knicks won the trade.
Will Achuiwa regress? Not likely unless they have to start him a lot. As a back up PF he can just play a simple game.
