Right, I think we should ask whether the NBA’s new games threshold for awards played a significant role here in making Embiid feel like he had to try to play when he shouldn’t, but he didn’t do this for the fans.

But to be honest, watching the moment of the injury, this seemed like something that could have happened at any time, so I’m not sure if there’s really anyone to blame. Injuries happen when you play ball, and some guys are just more prone than others.

As far as I'm concerned joel embiid is/was the true mvp this season. Nobody came close to playing on his level this season. Also, I love how ppl get on embiid about wanting to win mvp yet they're so obsessed about jokic winning mvp even over denvers success as a team. The hypocrisy is astounding.

He wasn't the true mvp, neither this nor last nor any season. Nobody came close to stuffing bottom feeders on his level, that I can agree with you.

Hes been the most dominant player in the league for past 3-4 seasons. He's also very injury prone and ppl confuse that with him choking in the playoffs. A fully healthy embiid is the best player in the league. Him owning jokic in the head to head is further proof of that.

I don't think he's choking in the playoffs. He's getting exposed. Choking is when you don't play up to your abilities. Getting exposed is when it becomes obvious that you don't actually possess those abilities. Like, when he "dominates" pistons and hornets of the league but turns into trash when playing real competitive basketball in the playoffs.

Sounds like you’re projecting your tendencies onto other people.

You really should change your handle if you want people to think that those you are referring to are more biased than you. Anyone who names themselves by mocking a player isn’t ever going to be taken seriously when discussing that player, or those seen as his rivals.

Wrong, that title clearly belongs to No. 15 on Denver.
Also Jokic is showing that dominance also in the postseason.

Keep telling yourself that only injuries explain why Philly never goes far in the playoffs.
If you know anything about basketball, you'd understand why his playing style is much easier to shut down during the playoffs.
But it seems like you're only interested in your marketing campaign for Embiid and not actual basketball discussions.

Ftr, I personally am not sure how much health is hurting Embiid in the playoffs. It’s definitely a factor I wouldn’t dismiss.

But as you say, there’s a concern with approach. Players who focus on getting foul calls tend to struggle in the playoffs.

This relates to the other guy I see as a top MVP candidate right now: Shai. I think it’s likely he’s going to come down to earth a little bit in the playoffs, and my guess would be the Thunder don’t make the WCF even if they keep a Top 2 seed.

Still might give Shai my MVP vote at regular season’s end tho.

Right. At the end of the day, no one knows exactly HOW MUCH of Embiids playoff record is influenced by playing style, teammates, coaching and injuries. I think we all have educated guesses here on the forum, but there is no way for know this for sure.

Damn, feel bad for Embiid. What happened last night? In the afternoon I was checking injury reports and it seemed like he definitely wasn’t playing. Now I see apparently he hobbled through a 5/18 game with 8 turnovers until he reinjured himself even worse? WTF!!! Why???

Like OK, the Sixers just fell from the 3 seed to the 5 seed but they have plenty of talent to let Embiid rest and make that up over the course of the regular season even if that seeding was crucial which it’s not. Horrific decision making all around for the Sixers organization. Certainly nothing I want to see regardless of my feelings on the MVP.

Missed his first two years recovering from two operations on his navicular. He strained his meniscus a month before the playoffs, and sat out (while Simmons finished the regular season with a nice run, but was exposed by the Brooks and Stevens in the playoffs.) Then he and Fultz both went for a loose ball and cracked their heads together, resulting in Embiid’s first orbital fracture, requiring the mask. The year with Jimmy he sprained his thigh and caught a stomach flu. Even with that, as the four bounces had ended game 7 against Toronto, I thought the in-game coaching had been horrendous. So of course, they got rid of Jimmy and kept the coach. Jo was furious. So going into the bubble, with Horford playing horrible, and then losing Simmons for the playoffs, Jo may have blown his one healthy opportunity while feeling none too enthusiastic for Brett. Then we got another meniscus and the torn thumb. Then another orbital fracture. And finally the anterior cingulate strain, which he shouldn’t have come back and played on after only a week. (I’m sure I’m leaving something out.) Obviously, the orbitals were freak (though the 2nd seemed kind of intentional). The thumb and flu were nothing chronic. But I got to say all the undercarriage stuff have been most worrisome. Like the big guy’s heft and entropy are too much for his legs to handle. Such an amazing, skilled athlete, with a dominant frame. Most dominant when he is healthy. Too dominant to chuck him. And yet for as much as Philly fans love the big guy, we all wonder if he’ll ever have a healthy off season.

Says "hypocrisy is astounding" from an id that appears the whole purpose is so obsessed about jokic not winning mvp...

Personallly i like jokic..i also happen to like embiid as well. I think hes been unfairly slandered on this board to say the least. The id is nothing serious and just all in jest/fun. Difference is there no real animosity towards jokic like some have against embiid as evidenced by the straight vitrol spewed his way. I dont think theres anything wrong w/ defending embiid and not going along w/ the mob to bash embiid nonstop.

Why bring up head to head when one the sample is extremely small and flawed? Embiid only played TWICE in Denver his whole career. So throw that **** out bud. Also think it is time to get rid of that handle.

Hey, did you create that handle to mock Jokic only to see him carry his team to a championship like 3 months later and now you're stuck with it for good as a persistent reminder of your fail?

Jokic was bashed a lot last year in the national media btw until he bowed out of the MVP race by sitting towards the end of the season.

I'd hope not, and I'd say most on here don't. But plenty of people were refusing to say that he was hurt before hand, and came up with a bunch of reasons, when the most obvious one (he was hurt) was ignored constantly.

You made an entire thread about Denver and Utah not deserving teams because you thought Embiid having to play in altitude was ridiculous. Shut up.

You yourself never for a second believed the most obvious one (he was hurt) and that's why you came up with whitehouse speaker level creativity with things like "if Maxey and Tobias not playing, why would he" and "Denver should not have a team due to elevation" even with stats to back it up.

Dude had like 5 different reasons Embiid wasn't playing, then when one of them turned out to be true tried to play the I-told-you-so card

For as much as I dislike Embiid, it is kind of silly that he could finish with 60+ games played and not even make All NBA 3rd Team though. Below 60, fine whatever, his fault. But 60+ of Embiid is better than 75 of whatever big makes 3rd Team and probably 2nd Team.
