They're only 2 games behind Indiana who they have the tiebreaker on and Indiana's schedule the rest of the way is much tougher than Orlando's.

You get a good guard in here and beat up on all these bad teams left on the schedule and catch Indiana. I think it's possible.

Embiid and Philly might tumble too.

Agreed... but do we really think we'll make a big splash? I love Tyus but he's not moving the needle THAT much. It would have to be a bigger move.

Banchero is going to make the all star because of talent also.. not Mosley. A goldfish could be the coach and Banchero would still make the game.

Yes he would move the needle but I don't think he would start. If they ship Fultz out they could very well just start Black but play Jones more.

I'm getting the feeling that it's probably common place for the league to let the teams know when any type of award or whatever is happening. Anyway, we're about to find out tomorrow. He deserve to be an all star.
If he's selected like we think then be prepared for quite a bit of butthurt from other teams....

Why? He’s been amazing this season.

I know that some people don't seem to care for him around here, but Mosley does seem to be incredibly well liked by players around the league, not just Magic players.

Coaches in the NBA are largely bad. The coaching in college is much much better. That's why year in and year out so many coaches get canned. Look at this year how many guys are getting fired. It's a hard job I would imagine and it's probably because of the politics and salaries and owners hamstringing coaches with bums on large contracts that need to get played.

Mosley can get a group of young players to sacrifice and defend. I will credit him that but that's not the only part of the job. The offense is gross.. it has been gross all year and it's because of him. I'll give my personal guarantee that the next coach (because there is going to be a next coach) will use some of these players differently (especially Banchero).
Disagree. I'm taking the other extreme, I think Mosley will take us to the promised land and be our version of a franchise coach. Your take is more probable, but mine just feels right. Mosley is a great coach.

Fun fact...

The Magic don't play another game this season with a tip time later than 8:00pm ET.

And they only play 5 more 8:00pm tips total.

Most of them get axed Riq. What they'll do is give him help.. can one of his assistants preferably the little one with the glasses.

But if he takes them to a conference finals and they lose they'll get him help. If he doesn't get the team to at least a conference finals by the 2026 season they'll give him his papers and bring someone else in.

Either that's because we have more home games or we are facing all EC teams on the road?

Because you'd be surprised how many fans don't see it that way.....other teams fans will say he's been inefficient and bring up stats but yet, conveniently leave out the part where he's being doubled and sometimes tripled every game

I could've sworn Carter is 6"10. If he's legit 6'8, that kinda change how I see him vertically. :-?

Naaah i watched Duke a lot and there was no way he was a legit 6'10 barefoot. Juat below 6'9 so 6'10 with shoes.

No woner he made a lot of noise about being a PF despite his body qeight being a heavy C. He just cant with the average C in the league which are 6'10 barefoot at least.

Coaching in the NBA is all Ted Lasso these days. Very little X and O and mostly coddling rich grumpy young men. It all started when Phil Jackson had meditation and self-help books as "coaching."

Look at Erik Spoelstra. On X and O, his is flat terrible. But on "getting the most from the talent", he is all universe.

In conclusion: coaching is "Ego Management". In this, Orlando has a very good coach. Mosley knows what the young guns need, and is getting them to gel together. Contrast that with the train wreck Vogel gave to his young gun roster. It is night and day.

This is a team game. Mosley has the Magic playing as one.

Box score thoughts:

Orlando won the FG% battle and won the game.

The two bench played level, and this game was won by Orlando converting it to 4 (Spurs) on 5 (Magic). But shutting down Champagnie, the Magic's defense could thrive.

Offensively, frankly, the Magic played poorly. Against a bottom-3 defensive team, the Magic had low FG% number and low 3ball FG% numbers.

Orlando scored more because the tea took 6 more FGs. (leading to 5 more makes). That was literally the game's difference.

So: where did all these extra shots come from? It was not foul differential, as both teams shot similar FT. It was the combination of marginally better rebounding and a marginally better TO-differential line.

Look all road wins are tough in the NBA. This was a good win. That it came from FGA disparity, I am ok with that!

Just listened to Mosley's presser. You could make a drink-shots game off of how many times he said "it's a 48 minutes game".

It was clear that coach is not happy. But: a win is a win.

p.s. F-Wagner was also grumpy in the presser. This is growth. A 10 point road-win is not enough for this team!

Another boxscore thought:

Orlando came in to this game as the very worst 3-pt FG% team.
San Antonio was the 4th worst defender of the 3pt'er via surrendered FG%

So what happened? The Magic bricked their 13 of their attempts to land on a sub-35% league average. This cannot continue.

The Magic needs shooters that can light up porous perimeter defenders. And this team does not have that.

p.s. Orlando's bench made one 3-pointer. ONE

Return to Orlando Magic
