First, guys who fit the TPE:
Kispert - not really a "big wing" per se. More like a medium sized wing haha. But the Wizards are a very bad team and rumor has it everyone except Coulibaly is available so he could certainly be attainable if we want him and he fits the TPE\
Fontecchio - he's a big wing. Pretty good player, can shoot it..possibly better than Hauser in terms of strength, athleticism, driving to basket, finishing near rim, perhaps a slightly better defender. He could certainly make sense for the TPE. But Utah is tied for the 9 seed so they're in the play-in - will they be sellers?
Bey - yes, he's a "big wing". Hasn't been shooting the ball well lately and his defense kind of a question mark. But you're not going to find perfect player who fits the TPE and is someone we can realistically acquire. He's one of the better options out there, imo. And he was good in the playoffs last year vs us. But will the Hawks be sellers? They're currently the 10 seed so they're in the play-in. And even if they sell, they may want to keep Bey, as he just dropped 26 pts the other night and made the game-winning basket.
Lonnie Walker IV - not really a "big wing" per se. Only 6'4.5" but does have a 6'10.25" wingspan. I'd call him more of a medium sized wing, like Kispert. I watched some nets film last night and Walker didn't really do much. But it seems like he puts up a lot of stats...maybe he just comes in and scores a lot after the game has already been decided? idk, I'd have to watch more. But he could be a good fit for what we need to help the bench. Also, the Nets are only a game behind the 10 seed Hawks, so they might not be sellers. Heck, there was an article a few days ago that said the Nets are buyers at the deadline. But then the other day I saw an article that said what their asking price is for DFS and Royce O'Neal so maybe they are sellers? Who knows lol
Kuminga/Moody - they fit the TPE. But these are probably pipe dreams. Warriors are trying to win. Reports are saying they are open to trading CP3/Wiggins so probably looking to package them up for someone like Lavine. Either way, it seems like they want to hang on to their young core (Moody, Kuminga, Podziemski, Jackson-Davis) so they still have some talent leftover once steph and them are getting washed up..and if they do trade Moody/Kuminga, the price will likely be too much for what we can offer - they'd likely be asking for a win now player in return, like a veteran starter caliber player.. Also, Kuminga is certainly a big wing but Moody is probably only a medium sized wing.
Naji Marshall - he's a big wing..measured 6'7" with a 7'0.75" wingspan at the combine..listed at 220 lbs. Checks a lot of boxes. 38.5% on catch and shoot 3's this season. He can defend. Showed some ability to take his man off the dribble and score at the rim the other night vs Boston. But the Pelicans are the 7 seed right now and only a game behind the 5 seed. And Marshall is in their rotation so why would they move him? You never know, perhaps they package him up in a deal to get someone better..and then we swoop in as the 3rd team in the deal to get Marshall..or we get him afterwards in a separate deal. But that seems unlikely - Marshall makes such a low amount of $ that his contract isn't very useful for salary matching for the Pels to go and add a significant veteran piece. Seems kind of like a pipe dream here..
Grimes - probably a pipe dream. Knicks are now the 3 seed. Grimes is in their rotation, played 20 mins in their last game. They're not giving him to us. If they move him it's part of a package to get a legit 4th/5th starter to complement Randle/Brunson/OG..
Aaron Wiggins - probably a pipe dream. OKC is the 2nd seed out west, only a game behind Minnesota. Why would they trade him? Especially to the team with the best record in the league? Only way I see it happening is a scenario like I outlined above with Marshall..
Eason - pipe dream. Only 22, they just drafted him w/ a top 20 pick in 2022 and he's been a good player for them. They're not gonna trade him and if they do, it's to get a win-now player, someone who is a legit top 5 or 6 player on a playoff team. And we're not trading anyone like that to get Eason..especially considering Eason is currently injured and hasn't played in a game since January 1
They don't fit the TPE:
Osman - big wing. Spurs are going nowhere and reportedly are open to moving him. But is it worth it (and is it even realistic) to do a 3 for 1 trade where we are trading 3 end of bench scrubs away? Is it worth it to do that, when we could just get one of the guys listed above, who fits the TPE so it'd be an easier transaction to make?
Tate - doesn't fit TPE. Can't shoot. And Houston is trying to win so if they do trade Tate, they'd likely be looking for win-now players, which we don't have to give. Rumor has it, the Rockets are trying to get Mikal Bridges.. I'm not really interested in Tate - hoping the rumors about him are just that..
Caruso - probably a pipe dream. But I guess you never know, maybe Brad gets aggressive, swoops in and packages up Pitchard + filler + picks. I doubt it, though. Seems like a wing is the focus for Brad, not a guard. Prichard has been playing better than Hauser lately..Pritchard has been showing more in terms of expanding his game with off the dribble moves, being able to create his own shot, score of the bounce, gives us more ball handling, more quickness and energy than we get from Hauser. And pritchard was inked to the contract extension recently..plus, Chicago is the 9 seed so they're probably trying ti win. Unless they move Lavine and end up trying to blow it up anyways?
Beef Stew - pipe dream. Like Caruso, I'd love to get him but just don't see it happening since it'd have to be a 5 for 1 trade which basically never happen in the middle of the season, especially if you're moving all those players for a guy who won't start and won't even be your 1st big off the bench
Possible buyout options?
PJ Tucker
Alec Burks
Kelly Olynyk
Chris Boucher
Victor Oladipo
Cedi Osman
Delon Wright
Danilo Gallinari
We need three things:
1. A big to throw at Jokic and Embiid and to fill in for KP if he misses games in the POs AND to help out on the boards from time to time when we inevitably struggle there.
I like Andre Drummond aLOT for this role and he is only making 3.6 per on a 2yr deal
2. A clutch vet who can move the ball and will not hurt us too badly on defense, and is okay with not playing every game.
Kelly is obvious if available (and would be in rotation every game). Oladipo makes alot of sense for this role, hell even Goran Dragic might be lured out of retirement for another championship opportunity. I am VeRY confident that there will be someone for us on the buyout market !
3. We need SOMETHING to get us out of own way when we have big leads and piss them away. We are first in the NBa in 1st and 2nd quarter scoring !! BUT we are like 25th is 3rd and 4th quarter scoring ugghgghgahhhh !!! I HATE THIS
not sure if its a player(s) or coach that will correct this but we need something
what is the solution besides getting rid of Joe ?? I like Joe ALOT but this is a MENTAL PROBLEM that may BITe our ass hard on the way to 18
PJ tucker is a crass thug but probably moves the needle in all 3 areas ha ha
