Pat Riley and Joe Cronin meet again! - Jerami Grant To Heat
Wondering how much value does Grant have on his current long term contract?
I think he's be a great fit with Bam and Jimmy, and not sure he fits the Blazers timeline, but not sure who besides Heat will want to be giving value for him.
Heat out : Duncan Robinson + Caleb Martin + Nicola Jovic + LAL 24 SRP
Heat in : Jerami Grant
Fair value?

No thanks from POR.
POR would want real value for Grant, not 3 bench guys and a SRP.

If you could swing any of that to a third team for a future frp maybe, but otherwise I think Portland is okay keeping grant.

Think it would be Grant for Herro based three team deal.

Maybe Orlando for Harris and Fultz with the Denver pick?

Yeah, Orlando owes more than that but that idea is clean.
Don’t love it for Miami on the court, but there’s probably a way to tie in something with Robinson that would take care of Miami’s finances this year and next.

Yeah, I'm not sure he's the perfect power forward for us, but it's something.jayjaysee wrote:BBallFreak wrote:Yeah, that's my thought, too.jayjaysee wrote:Think it would be Grant for Herro based three team deal.

PDX OUT - Grant
PDX IN - Harris, Fultz, Jovic, Howard, DEN25 FRP
MIA OUT - Herro, Jovic
MIA IN - Grant
ORL OUT - Harris, Fultz, Howard, DEN25 FRP
ORL IN - Harro
Not sure how it works w/ all the bodies going to PDX though. Maybe another highly protected FRP rather than Howard.

His rebounding makes him not a perfect power forward for anybody. But for him to work on a team, I think that team would have a good use for high end scoring from the perimeter (and a bit of an ability to drive) while having rebounding by other positions to make up for that weakness.
As for the trade, the value is probably mostly fine, I just don’t see it making much sense for Portland. Martin is my favorite piece there, but he is a downgrade from Grant and I worry he is even worse playing for Billups instead of Spo. I’m not big on Duncan or Jovic, and a 2nd rounder does little to change my take on this. A 3rd team as others mentioned makes some sense, but if the 1st pick we seek is pretty weak, I’d still want an ok player with it. So that Denver pick plus expiring contracts doesn’t do it for me.

This trade is almost impossible; This leaves them way over the 2nd apron next year, with a lot of big contracts and vet mins to fill out the rest. The only realistic trades they can make is trade Caleb for expring money, Duncan/Herro for ideally less money coming back or expiring.

Nope, we're keeping Jovic. He's not a throw in. And you're not entitled to Howard.BlazersBroncos wrote:PDX OUT - Grant

I don't see you getting what you want for him. I don't think he has that kind of value. You're not getting a useful player and a good pick. Most see him as a bad contract...Myth wrote:BBallFreak wrote:Yeah, I'm not sure he's the perfect power forward for us, but it's something.jayjaysee wrote:

I’m not crazy about the contract either but we aren’t giving Grant away for trash.
We will just keep him if this is the kind of offer that is out there.

Portland isnt moving Grant for a FRP from a contender and EC. I get Howard being a bridge too far - but I dont do this without Jovic.
I have Grant worth more than Herro so there has to be more from MIA. Guys like Tyler, Simons, etc are not that valued today.

I seem to value vets to teach young guys more than most, so if I don’t see the long term value as worth it, I remain fine keeping the better player. That said, I don’t blame competitive teams keeping a watchful eye on salaries being hesitant to give up great value for him considering his contract and rebounding.
As for more specifically what would get me to part with him would be a couple late 1sts or a mid-teens 1st. But downgrades plus 1 first in between also works (like Barnes and a first type deals). I also don’t expect the downgrades we receive to have amazing contracts themselves.

I'm not crazy about Grant as an option for Miami, in the first place, and with Portland fans expecting the bag I don't see a path forward so I'm out, altogether. I see no reason to overpay just to overpay...

If any team is asking Grant to be a PF, that's going to be a tough needle to thread. You need dominant rebounders at other positions and the right kind of team makeup in order to make that work.
If a team is looking at Grant as a SF then yeah. He's just fine. He's worth the money on Portland, and likely not worth the money elsewhere. I don't see a trade happening unless another team overvalues Grant as a future SF piece and is willing to give up draft capital and a young player.

I’d love to convince a team that he is good at guarding SFs. He is a true tweener unfortunately. Struggles on the perimeter against faster SFs, struggled to rebound against PFs. So I agree that the team makeup matters. Hart getting like 8rpg next to him in Portland was a great fit.

I remember having these same debates about Norman Powell a few years back. Blazers fan thought they would get real value in return for him. They ended up dumping the contract. Now, if I recall correctly there were luxury tax concerns at that time, which might have motivated the trade. But I put Grant in a similar bucket with once exception - it's harder to find 6-9 guys who do what Grant does than 6-4 guys that do what Norm does.

I hoped POR would keep Norm and trade CJ instead of playing NP as a 6’3” small forward. Smallest forward is more like it.
Grant is overpaid for what he brings but he does have a solid skill set and the contract may not look as bad in 1-2 years.
Since POR does not view Grant as a salary dump and the offers for Grant are largely dumps, why do it at all from POR point of view? POR will not sign a better FA, likely not even a solid FA in his place.
