Re: All-Star Starters Announced / Reserves Announced Tonight
People just keep talking about Scottie’s numbers, just watch him play out there. With the lineups he’s with I keep expecting him to be the clear cut best player on the floor and dominate like no one else on the team can, but he looks like just another cog in the system. I mean he’s trying to be aggressive, but doesn’t have those go to moves to carry the team offensively. And his 3 point shot has fallen off a cliff… he clearly needs more work and is definitely not all star calibre right now.

Fox and/or Sabonis should be all-stars. LeBron, AD and Steph should not be all-stars at the expense of Fox and Sabonis.

Yikes, neither of them made it, but two Lakers, two Suns, and a Warrior did? Sabonis was playing like a borderline All-Star starter the last time I checked. That's a shame.

Sabonis, yes, but I wouldn't have Fox over any of those players.

If you compare stats between Fox and Curry...they are almost identical so to say that Steph deserves an all-star spot over Fox because he is a better player this season...no you cannot make that case. Their team records however...big difference and that needs to be the tie breaker.
Obviously Steph has had the better career but I'd argue that Fox is having the better season.

well Lebron made it in because he was voted in. so thats a moot point.
AD and Steph are the controversial all stars at this point in this argument. at least Sabonis should have been in over AD which I agree with.
and people (still) want to see Steph is my guess

Okay so post Siakam what should he be averaging?
Keep in mind for forwards on crap teams, the highest scorer is 22 ppg across the league.

Not good enough based on what?
- The team success hasn't been good enough.
- The mult-year track record and reputation around the league isn't good enough.
- The scoring points thing isn't good enough. If you go down the PPG list, 23 of the top 28 guys made the game. Adebayo at 46 was the only "all-around player" type pick, and he might have benefited in the coach vote from Miami making the finals last year. Barnes is 48th in PPG.
- Based on watching him play, he's arguably not good enough, in the sense that he doesn't just take over games and dominate to the level that some other stars do.
So yeah, if we're looking at how all-star teams are typically picked, there's no way that Scottie would be picked this year.
If we're looking at who the top 24 players in the NBA are this year, though? If we focus on non-PPG centered statistics? Measurable impact on winning games this year?
With his hot start baked in, most metrics still have Barnes as a top 10 to 20 player in the NBA this season. He's absolutely been one of the best players in the league.
I'm confident that if the team wins more games in the future, and Scottie shoots the ball a little bit more, he has everything he needs to be a perennial all-star in the future.

Like I said watch him play it has nothing to do with what he’s averaging. He can’t assert his will and doesn’t look like the best player every night. I’m not sure why people get so caught up in their niases and delusions. I wanted them to trade fvv to make room for Scottie. I wanted them to make Scottie the pg of the future. So far, I’m disappointed in what I’ve seen.

They are far from identical from an effeciency standpoint. Curry has Fox beat by a country mile.

I'm sorry...I'm not seeing the country mile of a difference.
Fox averages 2 minutes more per game attempts 20.6 shots vs 19.4 shots per game for Curry but Fox's fg% is slightly higher at 47.6% vs 45.5% for Curry. Of course Curry shoots the 3 at a better percentage than fox at 40.9% but Fox at 38% is not bad at all. Otherwise they trade blows when it comes to points, assists and rebounds and the difference is pretty much negligible. Fox is a lower turnover player at 2.5 turnovers per game vs 3 turnovers per game for Curry. Fox averages 1.6 steals per game whereas Curry averages 0.8.
The big difference though...the Kings have 7 more wins than the Warriors and the Warriors are outside of the playoff picture.
I love Steph's game and most years I would have scoffed at the idea of Fox being an all-star over Steph but you're going to reward winning and recognize meaningful numbers vs empty stats...one player's team is at the top of the West standings and the other is probably lottery bound.
And it might be time for the old guard to move aside and for the league to promote the younger group of stars. Problem is that the networks with the big media deal with the NBA, ESPN and TNT as well...they only like to talk about the same 5 or 6 guys and that's all the general public knows about the NBA. It's lazy coverage. There are 30 teams in the league and more than 60 marketable star players but all ESPN wants to talk about is...how are the Lakers and LeBron going to get to the finals again?

Jesus christ he was by far the best raptor by margin.
Naturally if your alaf is Bruce Brown, and you don't have a Jokic or Giannis or Kwahi, yeah it'll probably suck. He asserted himself alot tonight. So what? Houston played him right.
In a more competitive game it would have been 30+. He got his but there was no glow otherwise. Chicago should have learned from you and let Scottie get his and everyone else can Jack up shots.
If your expecting him to be a full time NBA PG in this era I got a house in Torotonto to sell ya
Yeah
Torontonto. Totally. Totes. Duh

And have they been playing Barnes as the PG? No
Schroeder started until IQ showed up, then IQ got that gig.
Barnes took the jump to borderline all star this year. Maybe it's your expectations that are flawed.

You said it yourself. Watching him play... he's clearly not good enough.
I hope that you and the fans like you can get off your knees and realize that this kid ain't it. He needs a real star by his side to get anything done. He is not the guy who will carry a team on his shoulders to any level of success.

Are you a fan of the team or not? I *want* Barnes to succeed. He does not have to have it all figured out today. It would make some of us feel better for sure.
Why do you have him really written off? Have you seen similar players in similar situations flame out? Sure we all have, but I am going to need specifics from YOU here and not a blanket statement.
If you can't provide that, then what is the basis of your concern? Please share more details here.
I think we should be fans first. Barnes deserves a much MUCH longer leash than what appears to be provided by some (complaints to the refs, faults, and all).
Signed, a <insert arbitrary year reference> fan.
