This is exactly what I was worried about. You could tell Boston wasn't taking this game seriously in the first quarter when they had about 10 turnovers.

Had LeBron and Davis played I think Boston would have won.

I'm looking forward to Tatum's annual disappearing act in the playoffs. It ranks right up there with the annual "Everybody come get an easy steal off Jaylen Brown Invitational that we witness in the postseason.

Prime Red Auerbach would've broken up Tatum and Brown a few years ago.

This whole board looks forward to your disappearing act after every win. It’s been going on for years, you’re as one note as it gets. I’d say you’re capable of more, but it’s pretty clear by now that you’re not.

Prime Red would’ve revoked your fan card for soft behavior.

So the Celtics are above criticism?
As long as #0 and 7 have been in the league, should we not expect better from them?

BTW, just who in the hell are you and why should I care?

The Lakers board is loving this thread btw. We gloat and quote when we spank another team, but I’m not sure anything we’ve laughed at is as bad as this for a regular season game with a team having a 4.5 game lead in the standings especially.

Our effort and execution both sucked. Worst loss of the year. All true things, but the sky isn’t falling and every person claiming to see the future doom of this team has been met by someone else showing how we’re still in really good shape and vice versa so nobody knows which narrative is right. I hate the loss as much as the next guy but I’m not going to go full Karen about it either. It’s sports entertainment. We should still be having fun and realize there’s a game tomorrow and many more after that to get that taste out of your mouth.

Gonna just put what I put on reddit:

This year's Celtics team has had a lot of wins where they haven't played well. Games like at Toronto, vs undermanned Philly, vs Detroit, at Houston. They had bad halves recently vs Indy and New Orleans.

They've played with fire a lot, and it finally burned them. Hopefully they learn from it. If they don't, they'll fail like last year's team.

Yeah I try to remember that as much as it sucks to lose games, we've experienced that less than any other fanbase. Not going to win every night so we gotta take it on the chin now and then. The game was very anomalous and not anything to draw massive bad conclusions from unless you're really trying to do that imo.

For me, no one voted "other" in the AOS poll and when that happens I cheer myself up by telling myself I made a good poll. Probably not great that I also outplayed the Celtics last night but go me lol. Aside from that, in general I don't enjoy wallowing in things that are unpleasant, so life goes on.

Or Kobe. Nice player but no killer instinct and not a leader. And Brown… another nice player who is inconsistent and not someone you can count on in a big game. Aau has made these guys soft

Tatum is Pippen not Jordan.

Celtics need a true Alpha for Tatum to play next to.

That may be the case. Only time will tell. That's why a big part of me would've rather traded for Lillard instead of Holiday, but Brad's clearly betting otherwise.

Analyzing individual games during the RS is tricky, because they're of course real and counting but so many "outside" things get into play (schedule, streaks, motivation...) that it's hard to be so sure what issues are real and worrysome and which ones are flukey.

Arguments here tend to get binary, I'd hope we could take that into account for better discussions, at least during the RS.

On the game last night it was a tough watch and some concerns are recurring but we gotta admit that the Lakers B team was highly motivated and our team was clearly not (that will happen because they're human and they play way too often). We're still a process.

Go Cs. Peace.

The coaches have changed but our two core players haven’t. We used to blame Smart but now he’s gone. Our success or failure depends on Tatum and. Brown. 6 years on and we’re still
Losing games we should win. Not sure how much more evidence you meed before you can admit that these guys - as gifted as they are- lack the leadership, focus and drive to lead us to s title. I hate to keep invoking Bird who is on a whole other level, but can you imagine a Larry Bird team playing like we did last night? There is no chance he would have allowed his teammates to sleep walk through a game like we did last night.

Half the shots from 3 and just 7 free throws.

One cold shooting playoff series and the most talented team in the league is doomed.

‘Breaking News ! Celtics are the first team in history to lose a game they should’ve won.’

Cancel the season & move the Celtics to Billings, this is unacceptable !

Nothing is guaranteed. An injury to a key player in the playoffs can derail everything. That’s why we really need to go all in this season. Embiids not that healthy. Bucks are old and defends poorly. Who knows what will happen next season. I’m pretty sure all teams would want to get better. We have a good chance this season. The best since 2008. We must begin to develop good habits. The Jays should be ashamed of themselves if they are bored. Especially with the way we lost last conf finals. In fact, they should be hungrier. I haven’t seen that yet. Also, its sickening to watch those non stop 3pt chuckfest. Getting the ball inside should be the priority. Shoot 3’s only if its wide open. We are big athletic team. We should punish teams inside and get to the line more. Instead of bailing out other teams defense by chucking 3’s non stop.

This isn’t the 1980s.

You need to take and make a lot of 3s to win basketball games.

I don’t get why so many of you are acting like we’ve got Bird, McHale and Parish and need to just murder teams in the paint and it will work.

Standing at the top of the key and dribbling between the legs a few times and then side stepping to jack a three is great offense.

This team is not serious.

Nothing worse than watching someone as young as Tatum plod up the court like he's a 38 year old Lebron, kill more than half the shot clock, and proceed to jack up a shot that more often than not never goes in

Tatum was one of the only guys who played hard all game, he just missed his shots at the rim, which hasn’t been a problem all season. He went 5-10 from three, is shooting like 37% from deep for the season lol.

Eh idk. Noticed a lot of the “not getting back and putting his head down after misses at the rim” Tatum we haven’t seen in a long while. Nobody was excluded from lack of effort criticism within our top 6 for this game. It’s just one game and while it sucks I’m just as upset Bisme wouldn’t let me vote for more than two options or give me an all of the above option.

Also gotta say Reaves is super annoying and probably fell down because my comment was too harsh for him. The amount of calls he gets for flailing/flopping as a role player is envious for sure.

Doesn’t matter if you’re a role player if you’re a Laker. Can’t have all those fair weather fans turn off games and lower ratings, especially when they’re trying to secure new broadcast deals.

No Celtic fan will root against the Cs to not win a championship, with or without Brown and Tatum on this team. It's not about them, it's about the team. Any Celtic fan knows that both Tatum and Brown are very talented players. Me personally, I'm glad they are on this team. But most Celtic fans also know their weaknesses. Neither is a leader nor are clutch.

The game vs the Lakers was another reminder to a minority of the Celtic fans that can't see that. We are at home vs a .500 Lakers team. They are without AD and Lebron. This isn't just any game, it's against our main rivals throughout NBA history.
So, what did Tatum and Brown give us? Nearly nothing. They are our two stars and they came out flat and didn't lift their team against a bad team. They weren't aggressive when the team needed them to be to get the win. They were also flat last week vs a very bad loss to the Clippers.

This team lacks leadership. That's not on Brown nor Tatum. That's just not what they are good at. They are great at other things, but leadership ain't it. I thought Jrue would take over some of that responsibility, but so far he hasn't. White has to some extent.
As much as I like coach Joe, he is showing he is a good leader but not a great one. And for this team that lacks leadership from the stars of this team, a good coach isn't going to be good enough. Joe needs to take it to another level. None of us know if he has another level. I'm hopeful he does.

The Celtics have become the Dallas Cowboys of the NBA. Cowboy fans say next year with be our year. They say that every year.
The Celtics have a legit shot to win it all this year if everyone stays healthy. And if they still can't get it done, Brad needs to give Sam a chance to run this team. We can't wait on Joe.

At least Cowboy fans can say next year will be our year.

Teams like the Hornets, Pistons, Jazz, and a lot more can never say that.

To me, the NBA is entertainment.

I love watching basketball at the highest level.

NBA fans, in general, are just wishing their favorite team gets to the finals.

But Celtic fans are on a different level.
It's always about championships.

What happened to enjoying the game?

Wooo this is fun! Had LASIK yesterday so I’m only going to check in once in a blue moon over the next couple days. Hopefully we’ll be whooping on teams again so we’ll get more positive takes. It’s not the end of the world. Not good of course but it happens.

Hope everyone gets to see the real Celtics again soon, we are better than this. WE WILL WIN 18!!! Playoffs aren’t won in the regular season, DON’T FRET IT AIN’T OVER YET!!

Side note: GO TO HELL LAKERS!!
NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE JERSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(!)

Return to Boston Celtics
