Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD
I really like McCullar for the Pacers pick. Great defender, good passer, good cutter and a very improved shooter this year. Looks like he could be a quality do-it-all wing. Think Josh Hart. Wouldn't mind taking a swing on Kalel Ware there either. Package the IND 2024 FRP and the DET SRP to move up if necessary and grab either one of these two guys.
With the OKC pick, we should be looking at a backup guard. Would love to take a flier Devin Carter or K.J Simpson here.
If you didn't trade the DET 2nd, I guarantee Masai will take Ulrich Chomche.

If they end up keeping their pick in this draft, Ja’kobe Walter is the pick. This time desperately needs shooters who can defend. Especially ones like Walter who are tough and assertive and know they are that dude.

I like JaKobe and would be fairly happy if we ended up getting him at 6th BUT we better not draft based on roster need…it’s all about BPA and figure it out down the line. This team needs the best possible talent and then start building around those guys. Maybe he ends up being both…
I don’t oppose drafting JaKobe, I do oppose drafting for any current need (as an aside we still may end up with Grimes who I think would have very similar strengths maybe not as good of a prospect). Nonetheless I think we can find a way to get something like that on the roster. If we keep our pick I hope we just draft whatever kid we believe has the best potential to be a star (period).

I'm wondering if he's athletic enough and not big enough. Does he end up like a Jamal Crawford? I think a team in the 10-15 range should pick him up. His ceiling might be Jalen Williams.

McCullar is a 5th year senior that shoots 35% from 3 and prior shot 30% or lower. At most I would draft him at #31 but even then could see him go undrafted.
Ware might be Myles Turner 2.0. I'd take him with the Pacers pick.

Jalen is a different player…does a lot more of the dribble & drives. He’s a lot longer, taller and stronger. JaKobe actually probably more resembles someone like Simons but can defend.

Yeah Ware just looks like an ideal fit.
There’s a number of guys like Smith, Chomche etc that are kinda intriguing to me at that spot too. But Kelel just looks every bit the part of what we need at C, a rim runner that can occasionally step out, that’s perfect for spacing. Yeah he didn’t become a star talent as hoped but his skillset should fit like a glove. If he’s on the board it’s gonna be very tough to pass on him short of another player falling in the draft.
Pick the kid from Indiana with the Indiana pick lol

I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up in the first round.
Sure he's a senior and shooting better than he's ever had but his versatility and likely ability to immediately help might tempt someone to take him in the first round. I think he has a really good chance to be a good NBA player.
Ware is nice but there are issues with his defensive awareness as well.

If we don't take Ware with that pick, I'd draft Chomche & ensure you have a shot at developing him. I don't think he'll make it to the 2nd round when he's a physical standout that they're already saying is starting to create a little bit of a buzz.
When it's being classified as a "bad draft", I think more teams will be willing to take a flyer especially late in the 1st rd. If you miss on the 17-20+ in the draft, you won't get killed for it but if they hit on UC, that could be a big steal.

Mark_83 wrote:Jonathan Mogbo | 6-8 | PF/C | Age: 22.2 | San Francisco | Top 100: No. 81
Mogbo is one of the more unique stories in college basketball. He told ESPN he was a 5-9, 125-pound combo guard entering high school with zero Division I offers when he graduated, sending him to the junior college route at 6-foot-7, 180 pounds. He transferred from Independence Community College in Kansas to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M to Missouri State before eventually landing at the University of San Francisco in the WCC this summer, where he now stands 6-8 and 225 pounds.
Mogbo has been lighting up NBA teams' analytics models, filling up the stat sheet averaging 21.3 points, 15.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per 40 minutes. He is shooting 67.5% from the field (No. 2 in Div. I) with 47 dunks (No. 1 in Div. I) through 16 games. Mogbo's combination of mobility, explosiveness and intensity gives him a great framework to build off, but he's also had some impressive moments as a passer, thanks to the guard skills he has retained from high school.
USF runs a good amount of offense through him on the perimeter where he shows intriguing ability out of dribble handoffs and short rolls. Not blessed with elite size or bulk for a big man, and not showing much shooting range at this stage (but improving his free throw percentage from 43% last season to 72%), scouts will want to see how Mogbo looks against some of the better competition his team faces in the WCC, especially Gonzaga and Saint Mary's. While Mogbo plays with great energy, his technique and discipline defensively have looked questionable at times, especially on the perimeter. He has another year of eligibility at his disposal and a little more upside than your average 22-year-old.
I could see OKC taking him, they don't really have a clear PF type of guy (maybe Dieng in a few years, but he might be a 3).
Where's the D?

He’s more likely in the 10-12 range. We’d likely have to package the Indiana and Detroit pick to get him if we like him a lot

Id think you'd need to package the OKC, Pacers and Detroit pick to move into the lottery.

The price to move up from ~18 to ~12 isn’t going to be 28+31
