WHY?

Why not an alley oop to Wemby?

Devin is not a clutch guy. He missed so many down the stretch.

Devin went hero ball last several possessions down the stretch and made none of them. Had Wemby down low for the final chance. Clank 3 down 1. Brilliant. "Thanks", man.

4TH Q: SPURS 113 PELICANS 114

More later when the white spots disappear from my vision.

Notice how we haven't fared well when we hit 113 except that one time? Weird...

11-18FTs....................

18TOs....................

WE HAD THE **** LOOK POP DREW UP!

****!

I'm off the Devin fave train unless and until he makes the right plays for the best of the team.

WE HAD THE LOOK.

****.

Like did we miss the part where he's our best player and WAS OPEN DOWN LOW?

Yeah...

-------

Ok. Steaming. I want to do this now. What the **** did I say in the very first post?! Do RIGHT THINGS well, get good results.

But there was Devin, young leader as he tells us, blowing off Pop's 'TO THE RIM" directive, a coach who's been coaching professionally twice as long as Devin has been alive, but oh sure he was 5-10 from 3! Leading scorer! And all it took was the one wrong decision to **** shoot a **** 3 instead of DOING THE RIGHT THING. ****!

Wemby played NINE MINUTES in the 4TH Q and had only TWO FGAs. Could and should have been three, but nooooooooooooooooooooooo 2-5 Devin needed one more shot. AND, post-game he said he was open so he took it. AND he'd do it again! WHAT??! This has some **** DJ stink all over it. THIS is why you don't have a me-first guy influencing younger guys coming up. We traded him for good reason.

It's frankly concerning. WEMBY IS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM. NOT YOU, DEVIN. Pop CALLED a play for WEMBY. NOT YOU, DEVIN. He's got this hierarchy of longer on the team therefore gets first dibs mentality and it's just plain **** wrong. I'm off the Devin train unless he gets out of this **** entitled mentality. You'd take that shot again? Do the same thing? NO. ****. WAY. It's the wrong play. And also in the post-game interview, when talking about affecting the game, it was all about his O - not passing, not D... ok...

Except for Doug and Cedi who didn't have any assists, every other Spur registered at least as many as Devin's 3 assists, and all on fewer minutes.

And the frustrating thing is that so many Spurs did so many things so much better in this game.

Julian still missed shots but he was excellent defensively - much better effort and movement and response. Man and help D and rim protection were excellent. He was tasked with guarding Zion and took the hits. Six boards (3 on O), 3 assists, 3 blocks, a career high.

Sochan was a beat on both ends. Ripping rebounds, stepping up the physicality and effectively stopping easy paint points, great man and help D, scored 15 on 6-12, 0-4 from 3, 3-6FTs, game high 16 boards (game high 7 on O), 3 assists, 2 steals.

Tre led us with 7 assists, got 7 boards (1 on O), and was a driving menace, but dude, 1-5 from 3 LOL NO. He was 2-7 in the 4TH Q, 0-3 from 3. PASS. THE. BALL. TO. WEMBY. Side note: Wemby had more assists to Tre than Tre did to Wemby. Wut?!

Wemby scored 18 on 7-14, 0-3 from 3, 2-2FTs with 14 boards (5 on O), with tied for game high 7 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks. But he had 14 point in 11 first half minutes. Fought through a ton of physicality to get post up positions. We were late with passing the ball to him. Harbinger. Cut beautifully. Missed him. Harbinger. What an absolute waste to not use our best weapon. There he was making pin point passes, finding cutting teammates under the basket, ahead in transition, in the paint, extra passes ahead to the corners, and clean passes, too, right where they needed to be for good shots. It wasn't reciprocated in the second half especially.

Our bench outscored their counterparts 29-14. Zach looked better and led the bench with 9 on 4-9, 1-2FTs, 2 boards (1 on O), 3 assists. This is the kind of game that brought out Zach's strengths, playing hard-nosed, mucking it up inside, fighting for the ball, setting hard screens. He looked better.

Blake score 2-4, led the bench with 6 assists; even **** Branham had 3 assists! Truthfully, Branham looked much better making a concerted effort to play within team flow. Made 3-4. Cedi and Doug combined for 3-10 from 3. Rough night for them but every point counts.

The 18TOs (of which Wemby had 5; he needs to refocus and we need to do a better job supporting him) cost us 24 points! We were -10 in the category.

We were excellent on the boards winning it 55-39 and 18-13 on O boards, though Wemby getting blocked out on their touching the rim to hit the ball out for their final transition point highlights that when a board or play happens can outweigh the overall numbers.

And so bringing it back to that final play, any Spur not making the right play in favour of the me-play consistently can **** off to the trade door and pack. Truly disappointing decision by Devin and equal doubling down post-game. You'd make the wrong play every time? Good to know.

"We're growing but we want wins," Devin said post-game.

Do right things, get good results.
