Caruso to Houston, with Holmes/Dre
I don’t like it either.
Chicago: Caruso, Drummond
Chicago: Landale, Prosper, 2025 Houston/OKC first (say top 4 protected - if top 4 then Houston sends 2-3 seconds? It’s most likely 25th or worse..), 2025 Toronto 2nd
Chicago gets a first, a prospect, and a decent projected 2nd for Caruso and Dre while not taking back any long term salary.. Yes, Chicago should trade everyone and not care about the players coming back.
Houston: Tate, Landale, 2025 Houston/OKC first (say top 4 protected - if top 4 then Houston sends 2-3 seconds? It’s most likely 25th or worse..)
Houston: Caruso and Holmes
Houston adds one of the better perimeter defenders in the league. Instead of adding more than a first, they take on Holmes since they won’t be playing in free agency after this trade. Holmes just had a double double and blocked two shot, don’t look at anything beyond that..
Dallas: Holmes, Propser, Toronto 2nd
Dallas: Drummond, Tate
Dallas takes back the draft night trade. Starts to actually get rebounds and brings in a nice contract - wing defender in Tate.

I don't think I'd undo the Holmes trade and add the Toronto 2nd for that. I think the value is reasonable enough, but I think I'd rather just ride out Holmes than do this. Maybe I'm not high enough on Tate?

Re: Caruso to Houston, with Holmes/Dre
the 2025 1st is top 10 protected for swap to OKC so it could be potentially pick 5-10 if houston is bad enough. i dont think top 4 protection is neough

Interesting idea. Good haul for the Bulls and I think the Mavs do this unless they're high on Prosper.
Caruso fits anywhere, but I wonder if the Rockets prefer using assets for someone that's more of a scoring threat. Still think Mikal is a great target for them.

Yeah, I left that window intentionally.
Without that, I don’t think it’s enough value for Caruso.
But “there’s a chance”
Houston would be adding Caruso, a top 10 pick, and whatever other moves they make on top of the expected development from Sengun, Smith, Eason, Green, Cam.. I think they’d be comfortable betting they’ll be at least a play in team next year.

Houston fans definitely would know better, but between FVV/Green/Cam/Sengun.. I think the offense/playmaking is fine. Getting Caruso to play next to whatever guard they have on court fixes one of the biggest weaknesses the team has IMO.
Of course, every team should want Mikal. But he doesn’t only cost one protected pick.. he’s costs a top 10 pick and an few other assets.

Yeah, I just think the Rockets should use a bunch of assets for Mikal vs. just one first on Caruso. Caruso's deal is up after next season, he has an injury history, and he might be getting a little too old to be a core long-term piece for the Rockets by the time they're ready to contend. I think the Rockets should use their assets for someone that would whether that's Mikal or not.
I wouldn't trust Green/Cam to handle any type of scoring burden in the playoffs (but that's just my opinion).
I don't think it makes sense for any non-contender to give up a good first for Caruso. He works best on teams with 2 or 3 true scoring options. Lakers behind Bron and AD; Bulls behind Lavine, DeRozan, and Vucevic.

The first in the OP is most likely OKC’s 2025 first.
It’s worded top 4 protected because OKC has the right so swap Houston’s first if it’s not top 10 protected.
So it’s only a good first if Houston (with Caruso and development) does worse than this season and finishes between 5th-9th. It’s definitely possible. But it’s very unlikely. Houston will still have the Nets lottery pick this summer so could easily trade that with matching salary for whoever they want. (With Green, other assets as needed..)

Re: Caruso to Houston, with Holmes/Dre
It does not make sense for Houston. Amen has been playing well lately (backup PG) and they have Steven Adams as their backup C next year, so no need to pay Holmes contract.
The Rockets would definitely be interested in getting Drummond, though, I'm sure.

No, Houston has swap rights with Brooklyn after that swap happens, I would not do this trade because of thatjayjaysee wrote:kds92 wrote:

Re: Caruso to Houston, with Holmes/Dre
Yes CHI should trade, but they shouldn't just be throwing valuable players like Caruso out the door like he's recycled newspaper. If a team doesn't think Drummond helps them, then don't ask for him.
Unless there''s a massive HOU/OKC sinkhole that opens up that pick is north of 22 so a 2nd that ends up in the 45 range isn't all that interesting for Caruso. In lieu of a decent 1st to make a pair the Bulls would take a player of some possibility. All the shine is off Landale so he's just an expiring contract, Prosper is all prospect. If those from TX think DAL isn't such a fan of Tate that's the kind of possible the Bulls could live with

Yeah. That definitely changes the entire idea.
Wouldn’t do it for Houston either.
