Towns to Hawks | JJJ to Wolves

Post#1 » by Wolveswin » Sat Feb 3, 2024 5:32 pm

Hawks Trade: Murray + Okongwu + Hunter + 24 1st (better of own/Kings)
FOR
Towns + Shake + Griz Filler (Konchar? or Kennard?)
Why= consolidate to Towns next to Capela.

Grizzlies Trade: JJJ + Smart + Filler
FOR
Murray + Okongwu + Hunter + 24 Hawks 1st
Why= Murray holds down the fort until backcourt can be figured out next year. OO young bigman backfilling JJJ and Hunter fresh life at wide open forward spot in Memphis.

Wolves Trade: Towns + Shake
FOR
JJJ + Smart
Why= turn Towns into a more affordable JJJ and Smart for playoff run. Reid and JJJ should be considered frontcourt of future with Gobert mentoring JJJ until that happens.

*This same Hawks package (minus Hunter) has been discussed for Towns direct. As nice as Murray is in MN, Wolves aren’t trading Towns for a Conley to Murray upgrade or to have Murray off bench. Okongwu doesn’t work well as backfill big. Enter Grizzlies…

Props to the OP for moving this to its own thread so it didn't hijack the existing smaller trade its based on. Thanks OP!

Wolves are stealing too much value here. I have JJJ as the best value in the deal by far and don't think the Grizz move him.

Think a deal around KAT/Murray makes sense this summer depending on how the playoffs go.

I have noticed that many people here somehow miss the value of JJJ. OO and Allen are not even in the same tier as JJJ.

I honestly don't know how to value Towns versus JJJ, but in my mind in no way is the value difference turning Milton into Smart in favor of Towns. Feels pretty far off for me. Really hard for me to say who is more valuable. We've seen both of them now as the best player and that's a fail, but we've also seen Towns with a good defensive team work fabulous just like JJJ works fabulous with a scoring backcourt.

But factor in contract and I probably would give JJJ a slight value edge? But could be talked into Towns, but again not by a Marcus Smart margin.

Grizz have no interest in trading Jaren and this deal is atrocious for us.

I just don't understand why the Memphis Grizzlies is paying for Karl-Anthony Towns to end up on a different team. If I was Memphis, I would take Towns, in this scenario. Maybe I am underrating that Atlanta Hawks package.

Yea Minny is getting way too good a deal. JJJ on his deal is better than KAT on his, so getting Smart as well isn't sensible

If im the hawks i accept this i just think KAT is to great of a partner and pairing with Trae to let this pass up on a solid value for us.

If Bufkin continues what he is showing now at the next level he is pretty much a clone of Murray even if a little step down for right now. That is your SG replacement and cheaper for the next few years to off set KATs contract some.

Trae / Shake
Bufkin/Bogi
Jalen/Bey
KAT/Jalen/Bey
Capela/KAT

Thats a pretty formidable group and allows you to go pretty big around Trae with overall good defense, rebounding, and ability to stretch the court at every position in certain sets.

Wouldn’t it matter more that the Atlanta package isn’t worth the Memphis package? What Minnesota gets is only relevant in comparison to what Atlanta gives. Atlanta is saying they value Towns more than JJJ and Smart. Then the question becomes is Murray, OO, Hunter, and a first worth JJJ and Smart. If the answer is no, then the deal doesn’t happen. I don’t know how to value that package, because I see Murray as clear step above Smart. But the value difference plus Hunter and OO might fall short of JJJ. The first is the bridge and that is hard to value without knowing where it lands.
