I think I’ve heard/read something. He makes a bit too much to fit into our TPE from what I understand so I’d be surprised if we did trade for him, but what would I know?

FWIW it would be a decent acquisition in our position though.

Ehhh. He's OK in the Regular Season. But, not so good in the Playoffs. I don't see him as being over Hauser & Pritchard on 3's.
And, he's about 3 years older than they are. Too much, and too late, IMO.

Article says Brad looking for frontcourt depth.

I think it's a smokescreen. I don't think that we're doing anything, unless something fantastic falls in our laps.
Queta will likely be converted before the Playoffs, and therefore be eligible to play in the Post-Season.

Yeah, Queta will be converted, but he doesn't have playoff experience and he's still raw.

The good thing about Drummond is he won't be expensive and he really doesn't need to play unless Al or KP gets injured in the playoffs.

But Drummond would be great for the regular season as it would allow the Cs to load manage Al and KP.

I’m talking about a scenario where we give Banton, Stevens, Svi etc to improve our deep bench, but that probably doesn’t work either.

Personally I think we should only do something with our TPE and that’s it.

BOS in: Caruso, Drummond, Konchar
BOS out: Pritchard, Svi, Stevens, Banton, BOS 2024 1st, BOS 2026 1st, CHI 2024 2nd, DAL 2024 2nd

Upgrade Pritchard to Caruso, who you can be more confident playing in any matchup in the playoffs. Drummond/Konchar are both taken into the Grant TPE to help round out the depth on the roster after sending 4 guys out.

2 firsts sounds like an overpayment but when you consider they're likely 28-30th picks in the drafts, it's really not.

CHI in: Pritchard, Svi, Stevens, BOS 2024 1st, BOS 2026 1st, CHI 2024 2nd
CHI out: Caruso, Drummond

Realistically they'll be looking for more for Caruso (and possibly Drummond), but if there aren't better options it's smart for them to cash in while their value is at its highest. Our firsts are both going to be late, but they get control back over their 2nd this year when they're going to tank, which should mean it's relatively high.

If fed a ton of minutes, Pritchard will put up a lot of counting stats and could end up being a guy who gets flipped down the line to recoup even more value.

MEM in: Banton
MEM out: Konchar, DAL 2024 2nd

Konchar has been playing a lot better ever since he started getting 20-30 minutes with Ja out, but he still never fit for Memphis when they were fully healthy. They already made one salary dump move with Steven Adams, getting off Konchar's extension gives them more room, plus a flyer on Banton and a 2nd.

The Memphis bit of the deal isn't necessary, but I'm conscious that we'd need to get some additional depth in place after doing a 4 for 2 deal with Chicago.

I don't think anyone touches Konchar and his $18 mil. contract with a 10 ft pole.

Gallo is not really a big.

Drummond will give the Cs a lot of rebounds and another big body.

The good thing about Drummond is he doesn't have to play if both Al and KP are healthy.

Cs only need Drummond for the regular season and in case Al or KP misses time in the playoffs.

And salary will not be an issue with getting Drummond.

But the point I was making is, the pattern we have seen from Brad with his moves since taking the job is to only get bigs who can shoot.

And there were multiple reports that said Gallinari was gonna play some center for us (as well as PF) before he got hurt.

Brad was able to play Greg Monroe a few years back.

And Queta is not exactly a big who can shoot, but he's making an impact in some games.

Monroe played for us 6 years ago. It's a different league now. And he was not acquired by Brad.

As for Queta - Brad threw him a 2-way deal.I was specifically talking about bigs Brad has actually traded away assets to acquire / given them a contract that is more than a minimum contract.

Again, that list of bigs is KP, Al, Muscala, Theis and Gallo. All can shoot.

Even Kornet was a shooter in college and in the NBA before getting to Boston. Kornet is also a quick ball mover, very high IQ player. Griffin shot the ball well here and was also a good passer for a big. Vonleh shot like 38% from 3 overseas the season before signing with Boston. Kabengele shot like 40% from 3 the season before coming to Boston.

Queta doesn't fit that mold, but again, Brad only gave him a 2-way deal - he's just a 4th big..

Acquiring Drummond via trade would be a surprise. We'll see.

Article says Brad looking for frontcourt depth.

The article says we could be adding a guy who can play the 4 and/or the 5. Not a major move but just someone to add some depth.

With that in mind, and knowing the type of bigs Brad prefers to add..I think one guy I could see Brad making a move for is Santi Aldama.

-He's more of a 4 but can also play the 5
-He's kind of like Muscala..kind of like a poor man's Kelly Olynyk
-Memphis isn't going anywhere this season so they could be open to moving him (it's not like they just signed him to an extension too)
-Shooting 41.9% from 3 over his last 5 games on 6.2 attempts per game.
-7 double digit scoring games in his past 9 games..including an 18 pt game vs Cavs and 16 point game vs Kings. Shot 9/15 (60%) from 3 in those 2 games..that's 2 of his past 3 games
-Assist % is up quite a bit from last season, which is especially impressive since the team is much worse this season so guys are less likely to hit shots when he passes them the ball - so that tells you his playmaking has been good
-Only 23 yrs old so has some upside left

Not great defensively but if he can at least hold his own on that end, he could be a solid contributor.

We'll do our due diligence and keep the feelers out.
But, I'd be surprised if we make any Acquisitions.

Celtics are all in this year, would be very surprising if Brad Stevens does nothing and lets the $6.2 million TPE expire. The real question is how aggressive will Brad Stevens be at the deadline? Celtics will be doing something in my opinion.

“Boston looking for additional front court depth” pretty much evergreen as a headline at this point.

Though the “most nominal contracts” imo excludes PP.

Who knows maybe Saric is a possibility if GS wants to cash him in for some modest assets and roll with Green/Looney/Kuminga and a new forward up front.

Seems like him or Drummond. If we are taking real bigs.

Mostly people want to do something because they are tired of losing in the playoffs and want to give the Celtics every possible chance to have the outcome be different this year

Think we just need a vet who can come on and have a scoring burst or make a few plays.

Like what we had with Morris in Tatum’s rookie season.

I wouldn’t touch Drummond with a ten foot pole and i doubt Brad does

Brad I think might be up to something. At least in terms of clearing up some roster space to free up rosters spots for buyout candidates and also especially for Blake Griffin. Blake hasn't announced his retirement so there's always that possibility to come back to Boston mid season to win a ring.

2-3 years running still making a plug to land Saric for the big man rotation.

Return to Boston Celtics
