Mavs PF desperation With Nets
THJ
Holmes
Curry
25 TOR 2nd
26 DAL 2nd (conditional on if they convey a first to NY, but they will)
28 MIA 2nd
for
Simmons
Giles
Dallas does go into tax. Dallas does lose a useful shooter and another theoretical shooter. Dallas does lose all their movable 2nds. But Simmons can defend and rebound and be another playmaker if they could just get him on the court enough.
For the Nets, they just cut their losses on Simmons, take on no money into 25. THJ is a useful player and they get 3 2nds including what should be a good one next year.

Just wanted to opine that is desperation indeed when you are considering Simmons.

Were there any issues between kyrie and simmons?

Oh its desperation time for sure. Luka clock is ticking.
And if his health just won't allow this, at least he's expiring matching salary for the summer, though less flexible than what they give up obviously.

Were they ever both in the building at the same time?

I think both just have issues in general.

Is Dallas desperate for a PF? I am honestly asking.

Tim Hardaway isn't anything special; his efficiency is quite poor, he doesn't really add any playmaking or defense. But he can put the ball in the basket, and he's available most every night. You can't see either thing about Ben Simmons.

Is it crazy that I want to say no?
Simmons’ impact in 2 games for Brooklyn has been undeniable.
He only has one year left on his deal, why not bank on the upside if it can’t get any worse than it already has been.

They are desperate for forwards in general but I would have PF the biggest concern because of how poorly they rebound. Williams, Kleber, Jones are all some variation of an okay backup, but one of them has to start. And Kleber has to play backup center and Jones has to defend guards.
So yeah pretty desperate I'd say.

Not the best fit and probably not available for what Dallas has to offer considering Minnesota’s record.

Yeah. I think this is about right.
I am close to bumping the old Reaves+/Kyrie deal threads and just trying to start over in the offseason with a better asset base. So pretty desperate.

This
Simmons value is just climbing off rock bottom
IF he can stay healthy for more than a nanosecond, it will continue to grow
If not, then we won’t lose much by hanging on for a while as deals like this don’t move the needle

Any interest in Obi Toppin?

Re: Mavs PF desperation With Nets
Collins is a better, cheaper, more available player at this point who actually shoots, is a good pnr partner, and runs in transition. Simmons needs the ball and he's not a threat without it, seems like the worst possible fit next to Luka and Kyrie. Take out THJ and add filler and we can call it a deal. I know he's not super appealing but he is such an obvious fit in Dallas and should be acquirable for pieces they are willing to trade.

Their other filler is Grant Williams or Kleber who are longer contracts. You sure you want them?

Holmes/Kleber/Curry saves us money, opens minutes for Hendricks, and we'd get some seconds to maybe flip Kleber for an expiring. So yes, absolutely I'd do that.

Not really. I don't think Dallas should invest assets in anyone not better than the guys they have. Simmons probably won't play very often, but when he does, he's a significant upgrade.

Fair. Was just thinking Seth/2nd-ish, value wise, though.
