Pepe’s “well actually” routine when somebody gets excited about anything
The only three constants in life
To this date, he played 41 out of 285 games since he signed exstension.
"He is difference maker". Sure, in all 14% of games he was able to suit up. Nevermind fact he has min restrictions even in those 14% of games when he is actually aveliable.
He is great defender when he plays. For 14min a game. 14% of time.
I really don't want to get deep into this, so i'll leave at this.
Things would be different if we are great team and he is just cherry on top of cake, in reality, when he is out we are pretty meh team. So you *need* him to play, but he also- can't, nor you can't rely on him.
Right now this is very accurate. From a team construction standpoint, Isaac’s lack of availability makes his inclusion a constant shuffling of varying lineups and unpredictable outcomes. Unless he can prove himself healthy enough to consistently play (which I DO think the Magic are still holding out hope for), it’s as much an albatross as our completely unreliable PGs.
That said, this team needs Isaac. Not for his defense or anything like that, but for meeting the salary floor and having a contract that is big enough to help with bringing in a big star. Contrary to popular belief, teams don’t want trades that look like this: 1 star for 7 smaller contracts. They want as little mess as possible on their roster.
That’s the real value with Isaac. He has a large, super voidable contract and isn’t part of our core. To make deals work, his contract can get thrown in to make things match as the only thing other teams would want from us are cap space and draft picks.
This team is constructed to build around Franz and Paolo AND to pounce on stars from teams that want to rebuild with picks and cap space. It’s part of why I wanted the magic to use their expiring deals this week, but it appears they may not be as enamored with Murray as several of us are.
