My obvious question is if we trade some quality role players and assets for him…can we sign him long term. He is an RFA next season and I’d expect some high offers for him….4/80 or more type of deals.

Hell no to multiple picks for Caruso.
That is all for today.
Walsh is Rozier-tier, he's going to develop in the next 2-3 years. This season he's not helping.
Drummond sucks, but that's what you want for a third, fourth big off the bench. He's huge, still rebounds.

He’s in year 3 of a 4 year deal, so under contract again next year then UFA. So they could negotiate towards an extension prior to FA in a year and a half. So that’s that but

2) They're looking for a package that is much better than what we can offer (Pritchard + 3 of our minimum contract end of the bench guys + picks)
They want a package similar to the OG package which was Barrett + Quickley. It might be just posturing, but our package doesn't come close to that.
I think one way to interpret that is they are looking for young players rather than future picks. I don't think they want to get worse on court but recognize Caruso's value goes down next year as an expiring and he could either age out or leave in FA.
So I think PP is a part of a potential deal there (not necessarily on the level of Quickley but he is a competent young player on a good long term deal). Other half would be what could Boston get with its stash of smaller picks that would be similar, solid young players to send to Chicago. And obviously how does that compete with other teams in terms of what Chicago is looking for (young players under contractual control to not take too far of a step back).
HARD PASS on Caruso.
He'll be 30 this month, and isn't worth what they are asking.
Keep who we got.

Drummond I'm torn on...never been a huge fan, but this roster undeniably needs rebounding
I feel like Drummond can come in when a big is in foul trouble or injured and make a positive impact in a playoff game when the opponent wasn't expecting it/prepared for it. It would be short lived (wouldn't last the whole series) but could help win us a game or two. I don't feel the same about Kornet or Queta. If the price is no more than a few 2nd rounders, I think its good insurance to have with low risk

I mean if we can get Drummond for peanuts and he's happy to barely play I'd be fine with that.

Saric would also be a good option for the Cs.
With the emergence of Kuminga, I think Saric is expendable.
So if the Cs are going to make a trade, I think it's Drummond or Saric.

It's all rumors which 98% of the time never happen but it's fun to talk about.

Maybe. But I'd rather trade PP in place of Hauser.
PP has to go to make the money work. Hauser doesn’t, but he adds some value.
I could be wrong, but My guess is Brad likes/values Hauser and PP too much to consider both in a trade.
Brad just traded Smart, Rob, Grant and Malcolm in the same offseason.
I don't think he would have a problem trading Pritchard and Hauser.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Sure. But I'd prefer to get someone who can move the needle more on the court for us..

Re: Trade/Free Agency Thread 2023-24 – (Trade Deadline Feb. 8, 3PM, ET)
I'd happily overpay for Caruso. I'd go as high as Pritchard plus 2 firsts (2024 and 2026). I'm ready to push in all the chips this season, this team is too good to hold anything back.
Caruso is definitely a step above Payton. He's a vastly better defender, he's a much more efficient scorer, including from 3 on the same number of attempts. He's a natural role player who isn't going to try to do too much, which is perfect on a team that has so much high-end talent. Add him and we move from having the best top 6 in the league to the best top 7. With Hauser rounding out the top 8, that playoff rotation is absolutely elite.
Plus Caruso has one year left, so if it works out we can basically run the whole team back. If for whatever reason Jrue bails on us, Caruso can step in and keep us from taking a major step back in terms of talent.
BOS: Alex Caruso, Andre Drummond and Torrey Craig
CHI: BOS '24 1st, BOS '26 1st, CHI '24 2nd, Payton Pritchard, Dalano Banton, Svi Mykhailiuk and Lamar Stevens
Caruso replaces Pritchard in the rotation. Drummond shores up the frontcourt (even if he doesn't play any minutes ahead of Kornet). Craig is wing depth that won't realistically see the floor.
Is it an overpayment? Probably. Does it make us significantly better? Absolutely.

I personally don't think that we need to go for anybody.

Offer picks for Lonnie Walker to give that guy who can attack the rim off the bench.

I think all we know for certain is:
a) Brad will make a move
b) Brad will make a move for a vet. Think about it. These are the guys Brad has traded for since becoming GM, with their age at the time of the trade in parenthesis:
White (27)
J-rich (27)
Horford (35)
Muscala (31)
Brogdon (28)
Theis (30)
Porzingis (27)
Jrue (33)
See a trend? All between age 27-35. And all had at least 4 seasons of NBA experience under their belts
These are some of the names in trade rumnors with Boston right now:
Olynyk (32)
Drummond (30)
Delon Wright (31)
Cedi Osman (28)
Jae'Sean Tate (28)
Chris Boucher (31)
