In my mind I'm like Scottie really hasn't played well lately, than I look at his last 3 games and he's putting up 21/6/6 with splits of 52/50/80. Over his last 5 games he's putting up 20/6/5 with splits of 48/40/86.

He still manages to put up numbers regardless, now it's a matter of becoming more of an on court leader. Guys will be looking to him in key situations and he will need to step up. The only players who've been with the Raptors longer than Scottie are GTJ and Boucher and both may be gone by the deadline.

His lack of media training is pretty apparent, you can just tell he wasn’t groomed to the best player on his respective teams. I’ll use Banchero as an example because Scottie gets compared to him the most out of his young peers.

You can tell that Banchero completely understands what it means to be a franchise player and what that comes with. He was groomed to be a franchise player, not just a basketball player.

It’s why I wanted a rebuild much earlier because being in a connector role for his first 2 years hid him from the hardships. I would have much rather him go through this in his first 2 years rather than learn this in his 3rd and 4th year but alas Masai tried his hardest to salvage a B tier 30 year old at the expense of the team.

Historically far better to not get thrown to the wolves early in one’s career. Scottie was just not talented enough which you have also said repeatedly over the past couple of years. Are you changing your tune now?

Maybe if you’re developing B tier stars, then sure you bring them along slowly.

If you think you have your franchise player then you absolutely throw them into the fire.

It’s why I was not worried at all about Banchero last year while you were crying about his TS%.
He was not equipped to be a first option last year but it never mattered at all because those first option reps are invaluable.

This tweet was interesting to me because I was very critical of Barnes in that stretch but as it turns out, once the emotions come down a bit, there is more to the story. That’s not to say his attitude was okay because it wasn’t but the coaching/decision making also left lots to be desired.

I'm up there when it comes to Scottie fan boys, but in that OKC game he was doing some stuff that really had me questioning what was going on with him mentally. Specifically late in the game, it was either the 4th quarter or one of the OTs, he gets the ball from the inbound takes like 3 dribbles up the court and just picks up his dribble before even crossing the half court line FOR NO REASON, passes to IQ who then almost gets turned over. He was doing a lot of passing/swinging the ball in the last 3 periods of the game. He's got the talent to be a #1, I don't doubt that in fact I know it in my soul, but something's got to change with his mentality. I also don't think that his teammates respect him like that, skill wise he hasn't separated himself enough from a guy like RJ to where RJ feels like he should defer to Scottie. We're also seeing this with that knuckle head Dennis, but I don't know, Dennis might do that kind of thing with a prime LeBron, if he was enabled by his coach the way Darko has.

Agreed. That OKC game has raised a lot of questions for me.

I think attitude concerns have always been lingering there in the background. Becoming the "top dog" is when they become a point of conversation.

I think there's a lack of fluidity when IQ and Scottie share the floor. Personally, I envisioned IQ as more of an off-ball Jamal Murray type but the ball is a little sticky in his hands. I can picture Scottie being annoyed there's yet another player in the way of him and more offensive control, you know. It's understandable that he'd be annoyed that IQ gets the reps before he does. Regardless, he has to buy-in and put the team first. He's positioned as the franchise and that entails stronger leadership. No one enjoys routing for a malcontent.

Also, Jak operates in the spaces Scottie might need when playing with IQ.

Been calling him a future superstar since day 1. He’s been a tad bit frustrating to watch at times over the last week but the talent & upside is clearly there.

Didn't matter for Kawhi, Jokic, Shai, Giannis etc. The cream rises to the top.
