HAHAHAHA WTF THIS POST. Even without doing a trade (the trade deadline has been like this for the last few years), we're still in a good position.
just respect the process bro. FO is doing a good job choosing the right players/coach and building a proper culture in Orlando. Relax.

And yes, it is their job. Tonight's Heat game showed we are just too inconsistent and not good enough to contend yet. .
Interesting example…we got slapped around by a struggling Heat team, while finally healthy… so stay the course?
MIA showed how easy it is easy to eliminate ORL methodically. Live with Paolo getting his, swarm Franz, and dare the rest to do anything offensively. Easy.
Paolo keeps his stats up, everything seems fine…light work for a team that’s always in the mix at the end of the season- when it matters. Let’s dump more fertilizer on the story to stimulate more “organic growth”

Re: Make a trade or we call for your job!
I don't trust the front office, I don't have confidence in their ability to consistently draft NBA quality players and even more so I don't believe they know how to assemble a roster of players that play well together. Having said that, a trade involves multiple teams so it can't be forced. I believe the FO has already shown enough incompetence to be fired, any move made or not made at this dead line means pretty much nothing to me. We hit on PB and Franz, sure, but look at our misses. So many of them, so many guards drafted and nobody can rightly say that we have a single quality guard on the roster. That status has been earned by not one of them. Perhaps one day it will be but as of RIGHT NOW, our stable of guards is abysmal.
So, sure, fire the FO. They've already earned it, whatever happens today or tomorrow is moot.

I actually agree with a lot of people. I wouldn't care either way if we canned management. But I have entirely lost trust in them. They have created the worst offense in the NBA and taken focusing on defense to an entirely new level. They really are the most laid back in the entire NBA and should be on the hot seat for it. We have a roster entirely constructed of draft picks, players other teams gave up on, and aged/hasbeen vets.
When your biggest free agent move in 7 years is signing a 36 year old Joe, Bol Bol, Goga, Ennis, Robin Lopez, and trading for Garry harris, rj hampton and fultz.
like that is just terrible, and the bottom line is, we are good because we have 2 stars on the team, out of 9 top 15 draft picks over the last 7 years.
We have spend years rebuilding people, at some point you have to hold them accountable for lack of execution and constructing a group with such a bad fit offensively.

What’s the rush? Its unrealistic to expect Paolo and Franz to lead us and be a contender at this point anyway.
Management is quite boring tbh. I’ll be worried with Paolo and Franz are on their second contract and they havent done anything.

thats assuming the re-sign when they see how inactive our front office is on improving the team

The rush is that this team is flawed, and I just pointed out that we have done absolutely nothing in the free agent market for 7 years and have botched the drafting process a few times.
At some point, guys like Paolo, Franz are going to see the lack of improvements and want to get out of here. Franz isn't a rookie anymore, dude is getting an extension next year.
I have no idea how anyone can be ok with an 8 year rebuild, and allowing management to sabotage retooling our team for the sake of being safe and sqeeking out more years in their positions. They have been using this "we are family" bullsh it to fool everyone into thinking this is some kind of brotherhood, so we don't make drastic moves and panic. But instead it's just so they don't have to take any swings at all. You don't evauluate for 7 years, that is nuts. Their entire job is to make moves that put us in a better position, not to create a fraternity of fun loving, god fearing, respectable non playoff caliber teams.
I personally don't "trust the proccess" with them leading. They are one Jabari Smith pick away from a perrenial lottery team.
I dont see choosing Paolo as like some big milestone, I made his draft thread, he was the obvious pick, especially for a franchise that had no margin for error. They lucked into the #1 pick, and him making us playin worthy.

Re: Make a trade or we call for your job!
no need for a homerun, but there are smaller trades we can make to help balance the team and make it more viable for the playoffs in the short term....because this team as-is has been figured out.....just pack the paint, dare the inconsistent guardplay to beat you and throw a zone in there and voila....that's the blueprint to beat THIS team as currently constructed, no need to take this team to the playoffs as is and just hope the problems disappear because they won't because in the playoffs these things are under a microscope and metastasize

This is my view as well. We are extremely young, 4th youngest in the league. We've identified our core, a minimum of Franz and Paolo. We are establishing a defense first identity, top 5 in the league, and are on pace for another +10 win improvement. Our offense needs to improve, Paolo and Franz are the key factors here. We have to make a decision on Suggs. We need to provide a path to playing time for AB and Jett. Otherwise we have no bad contracts and tons of draft equity. We do not need to make bad trades just to appear active. If we can upgrade Fultz and Harris, do it, otherwise let them walk. We need to trust the process. We can't make crazy win now trades like Hennigan and ruin everything again.

Re: Make a trade or we call for your job!
The goal before the season was to make play-in, and we're on track. Fultz, Gary, and I think Chuma all expire this summer.
If we just re-sign Fultz and Gary this summer and add nothing, then I'm all for showing up to FO with pitchforks.

Re: Make a trade or we call for your job!
Firing? Not sure about that
But crushing it or doing an amazing job seems a little far to me.
Weltman’s drafting has been good to great (pending his most recent class) and probably the best part of his job performance in Orlando.
But on the trade/FA front I’ve found him to be not proactive. He robbed Chicago blind in the Vuc trade. Lost the Fultz trade. Held on to Aaron Gordon for too long - I think we lost that one too. I think he is scared of losing trades. But we have an absolutely flawed roster with the worst shooting and worst backcourt in the league, a shuffling of the roster was needed yesterday. We desperately need to make a move at the deadline. Not even a huge one, but a move. When you have your core pieces, having a roster to compliment them is important.
His best FA acquisition has been Goga who can’t get on the court when the team is healthy
Interesting to note: Weltman has NEVER traded a player on a rookie deal in Orlando. This is another sign of not being proactive IMO.
I think retirement in the offseason is more likely than a firing. Probably part of the reason Parker came on.
I hope Weltman proves me wrong tomorrow!

Fultz was traded to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Jonathon Simmons, an Oklahoma City Thunder first-round pick (21 in 2020 draft), and a Cleveland Cavaliers second round pick.
If you are saying Orlando lost this trade because Philly landed Tyrese Maxey, well, A) Orlando had the 15th pick and was never-ever going to keep the 21st pick also. And if you want to be revisionist here, Orlando could have drafted Maxey instead of Anthony.
And B - Kentucky guards always slide in the draft:
Calipari's system has led to some really good Kentucky guards getting under-drafted over the past nine drafts. With the possible exception of De'Aaron Fox, all of these Kentucky guards would go higher in a redraft today:
Player Original draft slot
Cason Wallace 10
Tyrese Maxey 21
Immanuel Quickley 25
Tyler Herro 13
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 11
De'Aaron Fox 5
Malik Monk 11
Jamal Murray 7
Devin Booker 13

The Magic had 21 wins in the season following the 2020 draft - why would they never ever keep the 15th and 21st pick? They literally just did that this last offseason..
Within 9 picks of the 21st pick in the 2020 draft - Maxey, Quickley, McDaniels, and Bane were taken.
How do you grade trades if you can’t factor in the future firsts that were traded? Don’t we factor in Franz in the Vuc trade?
Now factor in Fultz’ tenure in Orlando.. yes that trade is an obvious L

its almost a given those guys re-sign. Even if they enter free agency, they are RFAs. Loltiderulz wrote:fendilim wrote:What’s the rush? Its unrealistic to expect Paolo and Franz to lead us and be a contender at this point anyway.

These guys are “tied” to like 5 more years.

Of course we lost the trade even ignoring how good Maxey has become. We gave up a first round pick for a player who has been overpaid and a negative asset for most of his time in Orlando and is likely to leave either for peanuts or for nothing in a few days or in the summer.
His first season here he got paid a few millions without playing a single minutes.
His next season was the only healthy one and he was decent but nothing more and the team took a step back from the previous year with him being the only significant change in the roster.
In 2020/2021 he only played 8 games.
Next season he played 18 games.
2022/23 was his best season and he still missed 20 games due to injury and was probably a bit overpaid.

We’re basically in year 3 of the re-build. Not 8 years. Lol

The highlight of their tenure was the masterful job of not telling anyone who they were going to pick at #1...to absolutely no benefit. The whole league was stunned...and confused.
I don't hate their work so far or want them fired...pending tomorrow night's roster

lol. You guys do realize we have a new GM right? Yes, he's been groomed by WeltHam as assistant GM since 2021 (year we drafted Suggs and Franz, btw so I'd say he's been instrumental in our recent success)... but he's also a former player. Anything I worry those two old chums might be clueless about, I am certain Parker is aware of and understands.
People already calling for his head and the guy hasn't even had 1 deadline under his belt as sitting GM. LOL! GTFOH
