This makes sense especially since we’re serious about making the playoffs.
A trade could help us avoid the play-in too.

Obviously our first should be stronger, but it's a weaker draft, we have no roster space to use another rookie anyway, and it might help to have cost-controlled assets a year later when we get close to all the extensions and salary madness.
I’d rather keep ours and trade Denver’s. I would love to grab Edey with our pick this year. He is a 4 year big that we could absolutely use against the Gobert’s and Embiid’s of the world. He likely wouldn’t ever be a starter but I’m tired of watching our bigs struggle with those guys. There may be other bigs that I’m unaware of as well but that would be my focus with this draft. A ready to go big with real size.

and i have zero faith in Jett having all-star potential. and hesitant to even think that of Black.
OKC hasnt won anything yet. and that Magic team, did you forget Horace Grant as a starter? not drafted by Orlando. and Orlando's 6th man, Brian Shaw, drafted and played with Boston and Miami before coming to Orlando
Grant and Shaw don't undermine the point that this particular build was organic. An organic strategy to team building means you are acquiring prospects and developing them to fill key (core) roles. It doesn't mean you ignore other player acquisition mechanisms once you start retooling around a core.
You choose an organic strategy of establishing a core via player development because either you are a small market and can't lean on free agency to get core players, or you don't believe you can trade for enough star players to build out the core (Gabriel's downfall). You change strategies once you think you have a core established that you can build a contender around. We just aren't there yet I don't think. Franchero need a few more years. I'm the interim, Suggs, AB, and Jett need clear paths to playing time.

organic built in modern era is myth. Only somewhat true example to this are Spurs, won last title decade ago, with core they drafted around 2 decades ago.
Even Warriors are not really "core" built. In 3 out of 4 titles they won, their "core" player wasn't finals MVP. And in 4th, second best player was Wiggins.
Lebron's team jumping won more titles than all "organic" builds in past 15 years combined.
Does organic built include Kobe and Lakers? Or Duncan and Spurs? One man dinasty?

I think if all it takes is Howard and a 1st to get Murray. Go get him.I f things dont work out because of his character, just turn around and trade him and i bet you could still get a 1st and expirings.

They're setting us up to make the disappointment hurt even more.
Just when we all rationalized to ourselves that nothing was going to happen!
That's okay, only 26 more hours and we can all resume our normal level of expectations.

OKC is a bad example IMO.
Basically no other team has a 6x all-star in his prime that they are able to trade away for a future All-NBA guard SGA and 5 first round picks.
its like when people want to point to Detroit's title team with no superstars. that just doesnt happen 99.9% of the time.
It is hard to assemble a starting 5 where all are elite defensive players that can score in a structured system. They had to play perfect against their opponents and the Refs.

Re: Official 2023-2024 Magic Trade Ideas Thread 2.0
It's definitely not the best strategy in all cases, especially if you are a big market and can build super teams. For teams like Orlando, it probably is the best strategy. The good news for Orlando is that once we've got the core identified our mid tier market status means we can use free agency and trades to re-tool pretty effectively.pepe1991 wrote:organic built in modern era is myth. but it highlights my point. you can be mostly organic and then trade for a player that gets you further. A Murray trade would be an example of that for me. but you said ORlando build it with all picks, all starters, but Grant was a signing. Orlando has drafted their core players, Franz, Suggs, Paolo, making a move to solidify the team, address short comings and make the team better is still being organic. No, i repeat NO team has done it solely with their drafted players. Golden State might be the closest, so call me when we luck out and draft 3 hall of famers. even then they got Iggy to help them, Durant later and Wiggins. the draft is a crap shoot, you cannot always rely on that. Why waste young, cheap years with Paolo and Franz where they can grow better with a team rather than have to struggle because this team lacks outside shooting and a good PG?

I’d welcome Murray if the price is right.
You never know.. "Friend" told me about Vince, Vuc, Oladipo, and a bunch others over the years. "Friend" got a couple wrong as well. This person is not apart of the FO, but as close as you can get to it from the outside.

I do think it'd be suicidal to trade either Cole or Jett to Atlanta. You can't trade a scorer or shooter to a division rival. They'll make our lives hell 4 times a season. I'd rather put someone like Goga in there if they don't plan to pay to re-sign him. Great player but he's not going to drop 8 threes on your head in a sleepy game in December.

Organic vs non organic….Its all about possibilities yall. You have the cards in front of you and you play with them the best you can. If you see an opportunity now, you pounce on it. If not your grow “organically”.

I'd pay big bucks to see Cole or Jett go against Suggs/Murray combo 4 times a year. Cole would go 4-15 -> 12 points 4 turnovers 3 assists.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I'm begging for Dejounte...
But knowing Weltman, we'll trade for Murray and sit him for the rest of the year to heal up. No timelines!!!

Just realized we missed the best joke:
Murray preparing a weird phantom injury so he fits right at home on the Orlando Magic!
