What has happened to Cole Anthony?
He started the season looking like a six man of the year canidate. He has a midrange game that was automatic. He was leading the highest scoring bench in the league.
In Oct/Nov he was putting up 16/5/5 and shooting 38% on the long ball.
Then..... it all came crashing down.
Over the last 18 games.
He is averaging 7/3/2 per game, 37% from the field, 23% from three.
I mean jesus, he has completely destroyed his trade value. I have heard of slumps, but he doesn't even look like an NBA player anymore.

This is what I am thinking. His game feels broken right now, he's a shell of his former productivity. I really wish he would rest and come back when he's healthy.basketballRob wrote:He must be injured.fateis007 wrote:He started the season looking like a six man of the year canidate. He’s already extended. If he really has a nagging injury then I’m shocked they don’t keep him out for a while. So many phantom injuries on this team and they can’t give Cole a vacation to get himself right?

I do think that if he's still here after the deadline that he should get some rest until at least after the All-Star break. Something is definitely off with him.

I wouldnt be opposed to this
Cole
Okeke
Fultz
For
Evan
Grimes
Fultz as a salary filler if necessary.
Grimes gives us a solid guy who can shoot, evan can also shoot 3s at a decent clip.
Moving Cole will also free up minutes for AB.
I think Evan can have the Ingles effect on the court, Except the talking. Lol can run pick and roll at a decent rate and knock down open jumpers.
Highly unlikely Weltman gets him back though. I don’t think that even happened in NBA history unless the player is well-loved.

Idk whats wrong with him, it might be some personal stuff or it might be a nagging injury. Either way something is getting in the way. I hope he can turn things around but I'd absolutely look for alternatives as they present themselves
The trade Cole for Evan talk is insane. Evan can't even get PT on the Knicks right now with them being completely plagued by injuries. He's cooked, washed, etc.

Re: What has happened to Cole Anthony?
He’s a streaky guy in general. Without checking numbers, it feels like he starts hot every season, cools into a bad slump, then returns to better form toward the end of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did that again this season. But IMO hes not worth it. He’s an unreliable bench scorer who gets lit up on defense and can’t consistently get other players going. I think he’ll continue to slowly improve and be a good veteran in a few seasons time, but right now he hurts us where we need help the most.

I'm assuming the people that are bringing up Evan are just looking at him as an expiring so that we can get off of Cole's contract.

I imagine so…not a huge difference between Evan and Kennard types. If Mose won’t play Jett, he’s not likely to play Evan (or Kennard) either. Thibs and Mose have very different demeanors, but it seems neither will compromise defense for offense. They’d both rather play 5 defenders unless the player is undeniably prominent (Paolo, Franz, Brunson)

This post contract year effect.
Player got payed.
$40M of guaranteed money is more than normal person can spend in life time.
He is 23 years old.
Probably stopped being locked in 100%.

And he randomly decided to start coasting in December? And still look extremely frustrated every time he plays poorly?
I'm not seeing it here.

I agree. I think he’ll be fine…just far from a major factor. I’d move him for a better floor spreader or other equivalent value if the opportunity arose.
