Re: 76ers 2023-24 Season Thread Part 2
The biggest part of Hield value is scoring when Maxey sits. We didn't have another guard who can somewhat try to take care of the offense for a few mins at least. He's going to be a classic 6th man microwave here.
Then depending on matchups and/or on how well he's playing that night, you see how many mins he can share with Maxey.
I don't see it as a bad trade at all, Morris was a little redundant with Batum, Convigton, Oubre and Tobias here. Also we had success with this archetype of player in JJ Redick.

There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I call it like I see it, I was actually one of the few people who said he had a good offseason, by planning for summer of 2024 and positioning themselves for cap space and not desperately trying to win this season when it would be unlikely. But now he's given up 4 of their draft picks for what has been a marginal upgrade.

Certainly, it's an upgrade for Korkmaz or Morris Jr., but I don't like how we'd look with Hield and Maxey in the backcourt. I think that's too much baggage to carry alongside Tobias or another stretch 4.
While Hield might provide superb shooting, it won't be enough on defense to slow down the Celtics' offense. I just don't see Hield as the type of player who is “kryptonite type player” to the Celtics like how our wings were against them. It doesnt help on our match-up against them.
I see Buddy Hield playing the Norman Powell role while Oubre plays the Terance Mann role for the Clippers, where Hield plays as a 6th man scorer and we have the option to either play Hield or Mann alongside Maxey, Embiid, Tobias, and Batum, depending on the situation.
While Embiid is out, Hield provides Maxey with another scoring option outside of Tobias. It's also likely that we're going to acquire one more "meh" player (likely Lowry) in the buyout market to help Maxey on offense.
I imagine Hield is going to back up Maxey to keep the scoring load going when Maxey is off the court. Hield and Embiid will likely not lose too much offense effectiveness when Maxey takes a breather.
I think Morey sees Hield as someone like Seth. Both can play DHO with Embiid, like JJ Redick

Do we re-sign Buddy Hield? $20M per year?

We've had zero rookie player the last two years so don't pretend Morey is completely innocent on our lack of young talents.

Knicks only give up two 2nds and get a much better player than Hield.
Morey also wanted this players for second rounds, but we didnt have a good young player like Grimes.
That's one of the many things that grinds my gears about the construction of this team. No upside youth other than Maxey and a bunch of over the hill role guys...

Now you're doubling down. They were 2nds. Very easy to come by. We also have no good young players and the want to keep Melton or use him for someone better.FireMorey wrote:I call it like I see it, I was actually one of the few people who said he had a good offseason, by planning for summer of 2024 and positioning themselves for cap space and not desperately trying to win this season when it would be unlikely. So the Raptors got Olynyk, and he cost a 2024 first rounder. This season's trade market is crazily inflated b/c there are so few decent players available and so many buyers.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got Drummond for filler and a 1st. Not that I'd be happy about that, but it's sort of what I'm expecting b/c thus far we're still so small. Morey can't possibly rely on Reed and Bamba to man the center position until Embiid's back, right?

I'm not sure I understand the question, what does Morey have to do with the Knicks trade?

Making the difference between Drummond and Harden a first and a swap.

Because you were criticizing Morey for getting a worse player for what you implied was a better package. When we explained that Grimes was also in the package, you said that he only had value because of New York propaganda.
Don't be such an obtuse dork or I'll embarrass you in public.

I was saying the Knicks made a better trade than the Sixers, not that Morey should have or could have made the trade the Knicks did.
Don't make assumptions about the points people are making. You could've asked what I meant by the point first before going into attack mode.

I should have mentioned, could be Reed instead of a 1st. Maybe Reed and a second, or just Reed. Since Woj says that the Bulls don't want draft picks but want "talent" to "compete" this season (which they assuredly won't be able to do).
