Could we hold the salary spot this summer by resigning Jalen Smith?
Scoot???
I thought there was a reason to trade for someone making near what Buddy made but on a longer contract. for example, Wiggins.
Theoretically,.. yes,. we could resign Stix to a salary large enough (assuming he can keep the contract a positive value) to keep the trade flexibility. But,.. that's if he wants to resign with us,... and, once he does resign, that we actually want to trade him. I have to believe that if we resign Stix, it's going to be to keep him around longer term, as a part of the maturing, developing team.
If we traded for someone with a complimentary contract value, that could get close to positive value on the contract, that we don't see as a longer term commitment, without them becoming a free agent, then we would have a movable asset this summer when other players are likely to become available...... (Like Bruce) =]
Edit: good example - see post above - McDermott..... Edit, Edit: OK,.. bad example,.. he's also an expiring contract... =/
