Raptors' biggest change season ever?

Post#1 » by freamon » Thu Feb 8, 2024 11:15 pm

I've been a fan since 1995 and am wracking my brain to remember a season with more profound and sudden changes than this one has had.

Maybe someone with more time can run the numbers on in-season trades, but this year must be right up there.

And more importantly, I can't remember such a sudden and obvious dissolution of a raptors team and plunge into a new era. Maybe the year with the Vince Carter trade was also clearly the end of something...

It's quite remarkable to watch, and I am not at all surprised at the rumors they are looking at a re-brand to further set apart this new "Scottie" era.

What do you think? Can you recall such a big and clear page turn in raptors history?

With only 6 guys that started the season on the team remaining I think you are right.

Maybe, but only because we waited this long. We've had lots of teardowns before, especially early on.

Love it. The execution may not have been what we all dreamed of, but ultimately they did pretty much everything I wanted.

When last season ended, I wanted:

FVV gone (done)
Siakam gone due to impending contract (done)
OG traded if they didn't feel they could re-sign him (done)
Flynn gone because he's one of the worst players I've ever seen (done)
Scottie to become the focal point (done)
The team to get younger (done)
The team to acquire draft picks (done)

Yeah some of the returns were not ideal but at the end of the day every single guy I wanted gone, except for Brown, is gone. The team is still not hampered by a single bad contract, and they now have flexibility.

For better or for worse, BBQ is the new core so the heavy lifting is already done IMO.

Yessir. Went from the least amount of trades in 3 years to being the busiest team in the league.

Remember FVV was the first domino to fall. Had FVV re-signed at a "reasonable" 35M AAV we would still be running the same lineup that Diar Derozan defeated - and still make the trade for Kelly Olynyk for the push 2024 play-in

Once again, pretending you know anything about an alternative world and stating it as fact.
