I like the new team
Don't post much, obviously. Too many hot takes though for too long. The crows are happy cause they aint on the menu.
All the incredibly early Grady Dick takes.
All the fire Bobby and Masai...
We are not a FA dest so we have less mistakes we can make, and we all make them. Masai IMO is a top 5 exec, he has a proven track record of BIG game hunting.
Some people here wouldn't have the patience to pick off a pigeon.
If I am wrong I am wrong no worries to me but I am calling we make the play in and people in a little bit will start worrying about us.
And if Ive got crow to eat I will cook those feathers on a tiny spit

Re: I like the new team
The same people that were begging for the FO to blow it up, are now complaining about Masai & co doubling down on this rebuild.
In the last 7 months, we’ve added Quickley, Barrett, Dick, Agbaji, and JFL.
Masai is doing just fine so far. People are too blinded by hate.
This is a long term process. Look at how long it took guys like Powell, OG, Fred, and Siakam to pan out and become the players they are today.
That’s how long you have to be willing to wait with this core. That’s what a rebuild is. There’s growing pains involved. Deal with it.

As for the OP - I like this team too, but we’re not making the play-ins. We’re still a really bad team - too young, too immature, too raw. Simply not ready to win games on a consistent basis.

personally, im only just very pissed about the siakam situation. we should have traded him way earlier to get a better package to help this rebuild. not doing so put us years behind in my opinion. the "growing pains" era became longer cuz of stubbornness. look how fast the jazz rebuild is looking for example, because they didnt wait too long to trade gobert and mitchell, they did amazing.

The team didn't have greenlight to rebuilt
I think raps fo wanted to transition to a scottie barnes era while avoiding a full on reset

Well they screwed the franchise by doing that. If we did the reset earlier, this team would be looking very good for the future. the reset should have happened after lowry's decline, which was after that celtics series in the bubble. And we saw how bad siakam was in that series, but we decided to stay put for 3 more years lool. horrible management from 2020-2023.
imagine what our team would be with scottie + the assets we would have received from trading siakam, fvv, lowry, ibaka, gasol etc.. early on. And I still dont know why we traded norm for trent. OG was the only ++ trade we've done cuz now we have the BBQ core

like i said, raps FO didn't have greenlight to reset.
The Raps had made playoffs the previous year, and got a full 3 games of playoff revenue, hitting 5th overall seed
Yes, a lot of rap fans saw the obvious, the team needed to rebuild, but that's a tough sell, when you have Edward Rogers there, opposing your every move.
anyways, i suspect raps FO, has the remaining year, 2024-2025 max, and maybe 2025-2026 to do a rebuild at most

The OG trade changed the outlook of our future. Without that trade things would be looking a lot more bleak

I'm curious..
Do people actually see Barrett as a cornerstone piece and positive asset now since his improved play with us?
Isn't he still abit of empty calories?
Like getting decent stats without impact?
or does he look like something potentially valuable now.
I still think in a perfect world he's not part of the core if we get top prospects in 24-25 drafts no?

Re: I like the new team
we are the only bottom 6 team to trade a 1st at the deadline in NBA history and have done it back to back years. Got worse each year.
I'm very confident in saying we will be a bottom 10 team this year, give up a top 10 pick and be a bottom 10 team next year. Most likely if you pay attention to Masai's patterns he will trade another 1st in the future to put a band-aid on a broken arm. The future isn't bright in Toronto.

He was the 3rd pick not too long ago and the Knicks aren't a good developmental organization. He's high character, hard worker, and he's shown flashes of being a triple threat scorer.
I would say he's a better fit in the core than IQ. If he brings back a great big man I would take a hard look at the offer and gauge if he can potentially be an all star.

With how he has played for us, I think he is opposite of empty calories. He is one of the only people on the team making good cuts, he is rebounding and boxing out. I think he has been very solid.
The only game where we got blown out with RJ in the lineup was the Utah game, and once he was injured the team played very poorly.
He is under contract until 2026 / 2027. I think it is likely he is in the starting line-up for that duration.

I mean the team was old.. the writing was on the wall for this team to have a massive drop-off. And it did and it landed us Barnes. It should’ve been fully blown from there. We traded norm for a younger player in Trent which was whatever, Lowry for precious. But then kept the other guys? I just never understood it

We won 48 games after the Tampa season. No reason to do a full rebuild then. Historically GMs will exercise a lot of patience. No GM would’ve done a tear down after that 60 win season. I always laugh when I see that mentioned. As if they are going to trade a bunch of 24-26 year olds who aren’t even in their prime yet. lol.

Cool so then why trade norm for Trent who’s worse, just cuz Trent is younger. Norm was part of the core.
And no way on paper should we ever have looked at a fvv, OG, Siakam core and say hmm, this could work. No tf it wouldn’t.. ever, especially with 0 talent around them. If we kept norm it would’ve made more sense. I would have liked to see a starting line up of FVV Norm OG Siakam Poeltl atleast.

I'm happy with it so far also. My only gripe would be the Jakob trade is still an all time blunder by Masai. It also puts a cap on how excited I can get about the upcoming draft.
I'll feel better after the lottery, regardless if we keep or lose it.

I am sure if there was a similar Norm for Powell trade available for OG or Siakam we would have jumped on that to. However, I do not think many teams were looking to trade a GOOD 21/22 year old for OG or Siakam (and really, Portland was idiots for trading for Powell in the first place).
The gap between GTJ and Powell was not that big (and still honestly is not) - that was a NO BRAINER trade to make.
It was reasonable at the time to think you could build off a FVV/OG/Siakam core with a top 7 pick incoming, a 22 year old GTJ, Achiwua, etc. You guys act like we were a team of 30 year olds...
27 year old Siakam - all-nba talent
27 year old FVV - fringe all-star talent (you guys can debate this all you want, but he was legitimately really, really good for the first 1/2 2/3's of 2021/22 before his back went out)
24 year old OG - all-defense caliber guy
20 year old Scottie - ROTY with huge future hype
23 year old GTJ - just a solid role player, but showed flashes with 10+ 30 point games that year
Yet you guys act like we were some over the hill team with no future assets.

GTJ and Norm are very similar players. Both have the same limitations. GTJ also fit much better with what they were trying to do. He finished in the top 5 in both steals and deflections.
Masai never thought they would work. That’s why he tanked and drafted Scottie and tried to get Giannis, KD and Dame.
