Kelly Olynyk was asked about reuniting with RJ Barrett:

"It’s crazy. I don't know what are the chances of that are, that we both get traded to the same team, but it’s fun. I play with RJ for a month every summer, but now I get to do it full-time. I know what he's capable of and keep pushing him to be the best he can."

We replaced our fill-in big Thad, with KO - clear upgrade on every front.

Solid and underrated player, and we needed more size up front. He'll be a big upgrade off the bench. Not sure why he's on the team though, as it will mean a greater chance of conveying our pick to the Spurs.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Cam Olynyk and Poeltl play alongside each other?

Playing Olynyk as PF leaves no one as C backup with Thad gone

The bigger problem is that we don't have a starting PF. That position does not naturally belong to Barnes. It is much better for him to play SF. Nwora is OK for a backup PF, but we need a starting PF... That's where I got that idea of Olynyk as a PF!

Interesting, to me size wise Barnes fits best PF. Barnes isn't a wing in my mind but more of a point forward

Is my ideal balanced starting lineup

Olynyk will be one of our best players. He is very good and has been for a while now. Only question is do we let him do his thing.

I think it would be perfect to extend him to a 2-year $16 million deal right now and not have to worry about that in the summer, but maybe that's a pipe dream (and he may want closer to 10-12 per year anyway).

I think that unfortunately you're looking at a much higher number, but maybe a descending deal and a team option in exchange for that money. Something like this:

Year 1 - 17M
Year 2 - 15M
Year 3 - 15M (team option)

or preferably,

Year 1 - 17M
Year 2 - 15M (team option).

Could be, but he's definitely better than 90% of MLE guys, so a little bit of extra money in exchange for a decline + option makes sense for both sides.

If we move Poeltl and go for Claxton or Hartenstein, or go after Monk or something crazy like Jaylen Brown punches Tatum and we get him for Brown + Barrett, or Lavine for Brown, then yeah you likely need to save some money.

Otherwise, I don't really think a few million will be as big a concern as contract length/flexibility. Having a team option in year 2 for example and you've probably got cap space if we can somehow grab Jamal Murray or Ingram in free agency.

More likely they do it because they like Olynyk and think his shooting will help our guys develop the way that someone like Sexton has where his value and production are higher in some part due to Olynyk helping facilitate and mitigate Sexton's lack of playmaking.

People have big dreams with cap space but we aren't Los Angeles. We'll probably do something that makes it easier to do small things on the margins or be able to make a trade without having any bad money in it, like the Pacers did in getting Siakam for picks partly because we were fine with taking Brown and probably valued him similarly to a lottery or top 20 protected first as we probably figured we could get a 2025 pick for Brown and #28 in this draft and it just didn't happen to work out, but maybe in the summer, rather than a useless expiring contract which is slightly negative value.
Where's the D?

I’m excited. The last time we had a C combo was Gasol and Ibaka. Great to see KO, Jakob and Porter. It leaves some interesting options.
My eyes hurt watching GTJ would love to see O take his minutes.

Hopefully we get two more years of production out of him.

His game relies on zero athleticism so that helps

As per Celtics RGM board fame... he is to be referred with respect and as his full title, The Kelly Olynyk (TKO).

Probably. Marc did shoot 44.2% from 3 for us in our championship season (38.2% in the playoffs), though he wasn't shooting a lot of them.

Steve Novak also shot 42.6% from 3 for us in 54 games.

I'm sure they will be able to get him on a two to three year deal.
