I think people would have been really upset at that price considering they would have needed to immediately turn around and deal Carter away to balance the roster, which they obviously didn’t want to do.

The Mavericks gave up a 2024 1st for Gafford. Only they didn’t have a 2024 1st to give up, so they agreed to a 2028 1st round pick swap with OKC in exchange for one of OKC zillions of first rounders to re-route to Washington.
