Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
I just can't say that 3 or 4 are better than 5 when the procedurally generated dungeons are so much worse (in my opinion) than the themed dungeons in 5. Dungeons are such a big chunk of all the games, and they are generally pretty close apart from that.

Objectively P5R.
I really am not sure this is true...Persona 5 is the most well executed game in the series. Persona 4 is the best imo, and P3 has the most interesting/darkest story.
...for this exact reason.
My point being that P5 is persona executed to perfection. 3 is great for a lot of reasons but also doesn’t have the polish that P5 has in a lot of areas( you mentioned dungeons for example) however I think if you are just interested in the story and a good persona experience than p3 is amazing.

Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
And I guess my point is that I don't read Sauce's question as "Which is the best Persona game," but rather "Which should I play first?" I for sure think there's an argument with just starting with the newest and shiniest, but considering that it's not like P3R feels bad, I think a better progression would be P3R > P5R than the reverse.
Would be a totally different story for me if they hadn't just put a ton of QOL and updates into P3R. Playing P3 vanilla was a total non-starter for me.

The answers is P5R for me because of the dungeon design- the creativity for each unique "palace" and how they execute it is just all around badass. If Persona 4 Golden got the type of glow up graphically that Persona 3 Reload has gotten it'd be my #1 easily.
I still think Persona 3 has the best Social Links of the series. Persona 4's story is my favorite due to the mystery of solving who is putting people into the TV and why. But as a whole product Persona 5 just barely edges them out.
One note that's crazy to think about- in the original Persona 3 release you could only control the MC's actions and the rest of your party was decided by the AI.

Much better breakdown than mine. P3 classic was my favorite game for a long time until p4 came out lol. I don’t think p5 was able to surpass p4 to me, but the experience was definitely a lot better.

Yeah, I’m not asking which is better, rather which is a better place to start. I’ve heard Persona is much like Mario Kart in the way that the first one you play is your favorite, so I suppose there is some merit in saying, “play P5R because it’s the best and if you enjoyed that enough that you want more other stuff is there.” If this year stays kind of mellow on releases, I might finally take that plunge and start one. But yes, was wondering if it made more sense to go P3R because of all the improvements.

Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
My kid is very in to Final Fantasy, I had no idea it was almost a religion for some folks.
They've always been in to watching "let's play"/gameplay videos (I'm not sure as much in to live streams, but maybe?). A little while ago I started playing FF7 Remake, with my kid sitting and watching/giving me pointers and coaching along the way. We laugh and joke along (I'm not a massive gamer, and not used to this sort of game, so probably pretty comical for them). We do it in bursts of an hour or so, whenever I finish a chapter they send me a collection of about a dozen screenshots they've taken to tell the story of that chapter; I'm genuinely amazed at their eye for detail, creative ideas to capture an image and talent for visual story telling. I'll highlight the ones I liked the best, explain why and we'll go back and forth on their ideas.
Anyway- just wanted to say that I had no idea it would be, but sitting and playing FF7 Remake in dribs and drabs has been easily the most rewarding game experience of my life. The game itself is pretty cool, too.

It's genuinely great! My progress has maybe been a little slow because I flat out have not played a second of the game without them there.

He was my least anticipated character of the four DLC characters, but he looks the best so far. Definitely can’t wait to try him.

I absolutely love The Division but what I’ve seen of this game isn’t particularly interesting to me.

I watched IGN's video on the endgame.
This game just looks impossibly stupid. "Fire your cannons at your allies to heal them". WTF? The ships are turning on a dime. The weapons would sink our current navy. There's zero hand to hand combat like in Black Flag.
Ubisoft really Ubisoft'd the **** out of this one.

Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
60 hours into this playthrough of Tactics, which is after the 40 hour playthrough I started but abandoned for this version.
I've recruited everyone but Cloud and the human version of Reis. I spent so many hours leveling up characters like Agrias, Orlandu, and Beowulf. Now I'm finally at Limberry Castle for the big showdown with Elmdore.....and I'm just gonna revert back to my original crew. Five monks with Steal, Reflexes, Dual Wield, and Teleport.
ETA: LMAO for two weeks I've been building my party anticipating the Elmdore battle because I'd never stolen his gear before. Get in there and quickly find out in the PSP version you can't steal it. I'm f*cking furious. Win the battle in two rounds.
I'm going out, **** this lol.

16 was very enjoyable. Excited for story dlc.
Onto replaying VII Remake before Rebirth. Haven’t sat down and played a console this long in probably 5-6 years

Re: OT: Video Games/Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos
I'm sure 16 was great - lots of people love it. It was very not for me, unfortunately. I didn't feel character RPG/development at all, and I don't enjoy just action games, even with a great story. I didn't have the same sense I get from FF7R for example, which despite being action-oriented combat, gives me the feel that I have control over how my characters are built. Tried going back to it given my faith in the story, but just couldn't stick with it. Oh well.

Yeah that’s fair. It feels like DMC a lot and that’s a very different style. The story is an easy carry though. Highly recommend watching one of the compilations on YouTube. Really well done. I’ll probably try and get back to the dlc this year(maybe we get another).
Rebirth into Dragons Dogma has me very excited though.
Last Epoch looks amazing. I might give it some run, but I have a hard time sticking with games like it/poe
