Stephen Curry Top Iconic Moments

Post#1 » by WarriorGM » Mon Feb 12, 2024 12:23 pm

Another game another iconic moment from Stephen Curry. He seems to have accumulated so much material for a career highlight reel that it is hard to come up with a definitive list of things to include.

When talking about Michael Jordan all you need to say is "flu game" and people know what you are talking about. Many years from now what Stephen Curry moments will you remember? What do you consider to be Steph's top iconic moments?

I've listed some of the more memorable in the poll but there are others to consider too such as

2013 First round upset victory over the 3rd seed Nuggets (including an early appearance of the look-away three).
2015 dribbling through a thicket of Clippers and then turning around for a three.
2015 dropping Chris Paul.
2015 WCSF beyond half court heave to shock the Grizzlies.
2015 Finals sending Delly to the hospital.
2016 relocation three against the Kings.
2016 regular season 73-win and 402 3PM record setting game.
2017 13-game winning streak after KD injury to end season.
2017 turning Gobert into a spinning top in WCSF Game 1.
2018 record setting at the time 13 made threes in a single game.
2018 WCF Game 7.
2019 WCF with highest average ppg mark in a best-of-7 playoffs sweep, coming back from 17+ point deficits in the last 3 games.
2023 passing Ray Allen all-time 3-point record.

Regular season has to be bang bang 2016

Playoffs hard not to go for the highest stakes so finals game.
Pretty much just the Celtics series game 4 and 6, shut up slot of doubters and showed the difference between great players like Tatum and all time players like curry.
2015 where he also most all time (now 2nd most I think after giannis) in 4th quarter finals scoring. Even tho people discredit that series saying he was bad

Gotta be “bang bang.” The mixture of skill, intelligence, and IDGAF going into one shot was mind blowing.

The all star game where he was hitting from half court and staring into the crowd and had the entire building going crazy. And when Kevin Love locked him down to cap off the greatest choke ever. That's the two things that I can remember most vividly.

That clip of him pointing at his ring finger in game 6 is just cold.

"They do have a timeout.. decide not to use it. Curry from way downtown!! BANG! BANG!! OH WHAT A SHOT FROM CURRY!"

And that was Curry at his absolute PEAK.

The OKC pull up is insane but it was the regular season.

I think either of the 2022 moments will be his most remembered. Probably game 6 because the ring gesture is so memorable.

Underrated, 2019 game 2 against toronto without Klay and KD.

Crazy part is I think his best actual playoff moment isn't even on the list:

2015 game tying 3 to send it to OT vs. the Pelicans.

That was when I knew, OK, this guy and this team is different and they are here to stay. At the time they were just a fun regular season story. That shot set in motion the entirety of the next 10 years imo.

For me it'll always been the dunks KD got in transition as two defenders doubled curry off ball while KD had it.

The clean steal of Lebrons dribble on the fast break. The meme replacing the ball with the trophy was chefs kiss.

2016 is the best regular season game of all time.

That game had absolutely everything. Besides just being a game between 2 of the 3 best teams, and arguably the most iconic RS shot ever, it had
- Draymond had a complete and utter meltdown yelling at the coach at HT that he's not a robot (cops got involved)
- KD getting fouled out of the game in OT, by Steph
- KD joining this team 1 year later to play with them
- both teams meeting in the WCF in that same season for an epic 7 game series
- Steph got injured and taken out of the game, only to come back and continue to cook
- I think Iggy whose a mediocre FT shooter, needing 2 FTs to take it to OT off a really bad TO that OKC shouldn't have comitted.. what does Max say, fate of the universe

Breen saying Bang just brings you to that time by itself. They do have a timeout, decide not to use it...

Seeing him called STEPHEN Curry just feels odd. Something like that dude trying to push the Beard Harden.

It was certainly a great game as a neutral.

What might get lost with time is the context of that shot, it was more than just a ballsy long pull up with a great Breen call.

As you've mentioned there is the game itself, but added Curry had been decimating teams in the weeks leading up to that game it was his ascension season where we were seeing shooting stretches we just hadn't seen before, and this shot in a tight rivalry game on national tv was the absolute climax of it all.

The process of remembering in the NBA as it usually stands is heavily influenced by the broadcaster and what they choose to repeat on loop. Given how the game's broadcasters have in the past been shown to have agendas, it is less than ideal to rely on them to truly identify the most important and defining moments.

Is the Madison Square Garden game that ESPN always seems to bring up whenever Steph plays the Knicks in New York more notable than the game one Youtuber called "The Weirdest NBA Game Ever"

or the game Kobe's injury occurred that marked the end of his prime?

It should be more of a discussion than it is.
