Off-Season - 3 Lakers 1st = ??

Post#1 » by NYG » Mon Feb 12, 2024 11:46 pm

2024 (or 2025) Unprotected Lakers 1st
2029 Unprotected Lakers 1st
2031 Unprotected Lakers 1st

What does that get with any combo of Austin Reaves, D'Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and Jalen Hood-Schifino in the off-season?

Eh, I think Demar and Caruso would be probably worth 5 or 6 firsts. 3 is far too few

The players being sent out are just salary filler. The value is in the picks. No one is giving much of anything for Russell and Hachimura.

Why not 8 or 9? 10 even.

Nothing of value unless a star player demands to come to the Lakers.

Dlo epm this year is a +1.1, Derozan is a +.4

Dlo also costs less and is younger

Didnt Jrue go for 2 1sts, 2 swaps, Brogdon, and an injury prone Robert Williams (out for the season)?

I think LA has a shot some higher end guys that could ask out, but they probably have to note they want LA or a couple of teams

3 1sts, 2swaps, Reaves, JHS, and Rui is pretty comparable to what CLE sent to get Mitchell when he was 2 years younger and didnt have 1 year left

Reaves is similar to Larui at the time. Lauri was solid, but not an all star
JHS to Abaji
Rui to Sexton. Not a 1 to 1 as Sexton was better, but also more guards who can score out there than bigger forwards who can score

What happens if Mitchell asks for just LA, NY, BKN, Miami?

NY is not even a good fit. Mitchell and Garland have been meh together
Miami seems never willing to push in all these chips
BKN makes sense and can outbid us, no doubt about it. But do they commit to that core of Mitchell, Bridges, Cam, Claxton? Probably not a legit high end contender

I think they’ll make a play for Trae Young. The 3 1sts, Reaves, D-Lo and Vincent and maybe a JHS or Christie.

That may not be enough but I think they’ll have a crack at it.

This is why you’ve got to watch the games. DDR is simply light years ahead of d-lo in terms of value on court.

Yeah I usually laugh at some of the ridiculous Laker trades but think this could potentially happen on draft day if the Hawks decide to blow it up. Their ownership has been about selling tickets with Trae but a Reaves/Dejounte backcourt with Jalen Johnson + all those picks could be a nice foundation. The Hawks are already into season 6 with Trae and have made little progress in building a team around him that actually fits.

DDR is a FA.
Caruso was worth 2 FRP w two years left. As an expiring on meh-team, that value might go down.

Lakers should resign DLo and Christie to a long-term deal without overpaying. Find value in the draft and use their exception on best available players.

They should forget about Trae and Kyrie and enter the season with 3 FRPs and see what becomes available.

Reaves/Rui/JHS and firsts for Mitchell is the best I can think of (unless Markkanen is on the table)

That said, I still don’t know why DMitch would ask for a trade

If Mitchell doesn't extend with Cavs then he will be traded

Kyrie for two of them when Dallas FO tries to convince us that we are going to sign Lauri or Mitchell in 2025…

But realistically, LAL can’t afford Mitchell and he’s about the only player possibly available that is worth giving up the 29/31 firsts for. Murray isn’t, role players aren’t.. definitely trade the 2024 first for help and probably the 2029 first with top 6-8 protection. But no more unprotected firsts until you have a new core.

Markkanen.

Ainge would love to have more unprotected Lakers 1sts.

Rui + JHS + 24 Lakers 1st for Markkanen
(assuming Pels punt to 2025)

Unprotect 2027 1st already owed Ainge.

Add 2029 1st unprotected. Argue over protections on 2031 (if any).

Markkanen (been playing some great C)
Davis
James
Reaves
Russell

OR

Davis
James
Markkanen
Reaves
Vincent (Russell scoring 6th man)

Lakers add vet defensive guard or two.

Not enough for Utah. We can keep a guy who wants to stay in Utah and add a star with our plethora of picks.
