Re: Dallas Mavericks 2023/24 Trade thread
Herb would be good and I think they might trade him but since he's on a good contract and valuable two way player he could probably fetch them 2 first rounders...not sure I'd pay that priče
How about Keldon Johnson...he seems to have fallen out of favor in SA....he was on team USA in the 2020 Olynpics... he's still Young bit lacks the size...how is his D? Anyone know more about him

Herb is also better player, now that you're mentioning it, Pels trading Trey with their cap situation is a possibility.
Pels are scary for a multitude of reasons. Herb's very affordable and reasonable contract is yet another reason. Yet somehow our FO felt that josh Green deserved a higher annual number than the far superior Herb. It boggles the mind.

His defense is bad.

He's known as a pretty awful defender and empty stats guy, so I wouldnt put too much effort in going after him

Trade THJ for Brogdon. Sign DSJ in the summer. Problem solved.

Brogdon is always injuried and a bad contract, THJ next will be FA. He is not a problem if used correctly.
Him and Hardy are microwave from the bench, Kidd has to play the hottest one.

I agree with you that Kidd needs to tighten the leash on THJ. If he's off in his 1st 3 or 4 shots, get him off immediately. If he's on, let him cook and play extended minutes. He's not good enough to warrant consistent 25-30+ mpg since he does everything other then microwave scoring at a below average level.
Also Kidd needs to stop playing Hardy and THJ together. 1 or the other. Never together unless there are injuries.

You can't bench shooter after 3 shots. Kidd should minimised his ball handling on minimum and prohibited isos, like Carlisle did. That will lower his attempts and hopefully higher his %.

I wonder if Green / Exum / Omax / Hardy / ‘25 1st (Unprotected) / ‘31 1st (Unprotected) / ‘26 1st Swap / (5) 2nds / 7.261M cash is enough to get Mikal.
The Nets get 3 players on Claxton’s timeline and basically get firm control of most of Dallas’ (potentially) post-Luka draft capital.
Give DJJ the 2-year TPMLE (5.183M) and bring back DSJ to a minimum deal:
Luka (35) / DSJ (10)
Kyrie (35) / THJ (20) / Lawson
Bridges (35) / DJJ (10) / Vet Min
Washington (30) / Kleber (20) / Vet Min
Lively (25) / Gafford (20) / Powell
Payroll would be just over 185M with 14 on the roster (including McGee’s dead money).
You definitely sacrifice depth, youth, and all your future draft capital, but that 8-man playoff rotation is definitely championship caliber—and less cap-strapped than most of the other true 2025 contenders.

Fine, then 4 or 5 shots. He shot 5 times in a 2 minute span last night against OKC and badly missed all of it. It shouldn't have taken Kidd all the way to the 4th quarter to realize that THJ was hurting the team that night.

Agree.
THJ is a streaky shooter so 99% of the times when he misses 3/4 shoots in a row then he is ice cold for all game...

I’d do it. I don’t know if it’s enough but I‘d do it. 3rd scorer, elite defensively, doesn’t miss time for injury. Makes Mavs a tier 1 contender.

I'd love Mikal too but I doubt that gets it done. NY, HOU, OKC, etc. can all swoop in and offer waaaaaay more than us. He has to demand a trade here or we offer Lively for BRK to even entertain the offer imo.

We dont have sufficient assets to get Mikal, unless we are willing to give up 3+ future first round picks + young players, in which I will be hesistant to do so.

Mikal is too expensive. I really doubt the Nets will say yes to it.
Maybe it's better not to be the best. Then you can lose and it's OK. - Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993)

This is a pipe dream. Let's be realistic lol

Nets gave up one of the best NBA players for Bridges so I expect they'd demand a king's ransom for him.
We need to move on from that notion.

Mikal Bridges would be too expensive and out of reach. What Dallas needs to keep tabs on in Brandon Ingram and his possible departure from New Orleans. Perfect 3rd star after Luka and Kyrie.

If they keep Luka/Kyrie they need a 2 way player or defensive specialist, not BI. Herb Jones would be the NO guy I'd want, but dont see a path to get him.

ESPN just reported that the Pels need to make a decision between Zion and BI. And that might come this summer. THJ (expiring) + Green + Hardy might be enough?
